You want a compressor pedal mostly for clean stuff with a short attack, Country lines, Funk rhythm, that kinda stuff.

+1 to what Ed said.

I dont really see a big reason for Reverb pedals for myself, bc I play metal and the venues tend to add a really nice reverb. Now delay on the other hand I think can really add a ton of depth to solos and such.

thank you~~~~yeah, metal doesn't really need reverb, delay is very important....

Overdrive is already compressed, and it's gonna be compressed even more in the mix (and later the whole band in mastering)

+1 for delay.
I just use my Champ's reverb for "erotic " solos and clean stuff kinda things

I have a barber tone press compressor. Like Ed said, its nice to add sustain too clean lines and really low gain stuff. With most distortion pedals or distortion on amp, there is compression, so you don't need the compressor pedal.

For reverb I use a Line 6 Verbzilla, it works well for me.

As far as pedals go, my top 4 pedals that I find I like are a good delay, wah, tuner, and overdrive. The rest I can get by without....

I use a comp as a boost sometimes but I might be pulling it from my chain. I haven't been playing with a lot of clean tones recently and have my boosts covered with Micro Amp and Trans OD.

I am getting a compressor for my ENGL E530 because I am running it into a solid state power amp, and the clean channels dynamics cause the power amp to start to clip at a lower volume. So for a solid state power amp it is probably better for the amp to have the cleans compressed.
