After the problem with loose earth wire 2 weeks ago (all sorted) my amp blew its speaker on Friday at a gig. Fortunately there was a PA cab at the venue I could use..... Didn't sound so great but it got the gig done.... Speaker just went instantaneously in the second set. No deterioration in sound, just gone!!

Could the speaker have been damaged whilst the earth was disconnected?

I note the speaker is connected to the cab with 3 cross head screws and 1 star bolt? Any reason for this? Seems odd.

Also I notice that whilst removing the amp from cabinet the control facia caught on the grill panel and I have bent it slightly around the on/off and run/standby switches. Any ideas on how to straighten it out? its sticking out perhaps 2mm..

Thanks guys. Love the sound of this amp buts its wearing me down now... Have I just been unlucky?

Regards

Are you sure that the problem is the speaker here? You can check the speaker with a small 9V battery or some AC voltage generator.

Definitely the speaker.

Amp was coming through the PA fine out of the compensated out and also worked okay (though with compromised tone) through the PA cab I ended up using....

Took grill cloth off and when speaker cone is moved there is a grating noise. Sure sign of fried speaker I think....

Will order replacement tomorrow....

Cheers Graham !

Sorry about your troubles with that great combo, really annoying when you gig regularly.

Just in case you are bored and are interested, below is a video on how to test a speaker with a 9V battery.

All the best to you, Jens Kruse

Graham,

is the speaker a V30 or a K100 ?

Why don´t send me an email ?

Email sent Peter.

I know about the test with 9V battery from years ago. This speaker is toast......

Thanks though Jens.

Regards.

Email sent but I have no answer to my questions?

Any advice would be most welcome.

re facia panel damage, question of speaker being damaged by disconnected earth and odd random choice of speaker fixings?

Regards.

Email replied after 24 hours but sorry for 5 hours sleep and a 19 hours
busy day ;)

The front grill is removeable by the way except You have a
very old version and we use 4 metric M5 screws to install the speaker.
Please ask the pre owner what happened to the screws.

Hi Peter.

Yes thanks got your mail and I also am very busy. I work hard in my job to afford the amps you produce. I also gig regularly and need to rely on my amp. Like any working musician....

Unfortunately at the moment my amp has self destructed in 2 out of the last 3 shows (in 2 weeks...) I have done. This is not the reliability I bought into by way of the Diezel brand and reputation.

Combine this with a severe case of Viral Conjunctivitus (Eye infection, I have appointment with opthalmic specialist this afternoon), my elderly Mother in hospital since 1st June and I apologise if I am getting a little stressed. :D

I did ask about grill removal some time ago but got no response. No mind. Any idea how to correct the bent facia? Or could i get a new one from you?

I don't have a very old version?? Amp shipped to UK March 2010. Didn't suit previous owner who sold it to me. Had home/studio use only and I have asked and the speaker has not been removed.

No mind again. I have replacement speaker beside me now to install tonight.

Regards

Whoaaaa, Graham, you're letting out some steam here.

I hope all works out with the new speaker. Which one did you get?

Hope everything works out for you.

Totally off topic. A British friend of mine told me a joke I did not "get". Can you please explain this to me?

Old lady (to street musician) - Do you always play by ear?
Street Musician - Yes, lady, 'ere or 'ereabouts.

Cheers,

Jens

Hello Graham,

of course we can send You a new face plate.

For Your complaints ... the amp was used and we don´t
know the historie ;) It´s no secret that I take care
about quality and customer support.

If You have no concerns about the shipping costs please
send the amp over to me. I will only bill You on parts and
shipment but free of any labour costs.

So You can be sure to have a new amp with a "clean shirt".

Cheers,
Peter

Hey Peter.

A very measured response; thank you and I apologise, I was venting some steam there... Also I am in pain. Sorry..

 My eyes hurt. Doctor says nothing too serious, just need medication and time. Further appointment on Friday.

Now the good news. Installed new speaker, (Celestion G12K-100 Jens) direct replacement for what was in there. I have sat with the amp for maybe an hour bedding the speaker in and what can I say?

Every chord brings a smile to my face!!! Every note blossoms and is wonderful. Maybe the speaker was on its way out, amp seems to be a little "more" now. I also found a bad microphonic preamp tube in V2. Swapped that out for a new Ruby HG+. All is well now.

Best amp I have ever played through? You bet. Just hope that its an end now to the problems. I have a gig Friday, will be a good test!!!

If I encounter more issues I will consider your very generous gesture Peter, but the shipping costs are prohibitive. Would be cheaper to take a holiday in Bad Steben and bring it myself..... Not a bad idea. I love German beer!!!

Hey Jens. Ref your joke.

"'ere" is English slang for Here, or Hereabouts. Location.... You dig?

Pretty good....

Thanks for your responses.

If I did want a new faceplate Peter, how do I go about this? Mail me if you prefer.

Regards

Thanks for the explanation of this joke, now I get it. Must be that local slang of yours, hahaha.

Great with your new speaker !!! And glad to "read" your mood change

I completely understand where you were coming from, though !

Good luck with your gig, keep us posted how it went down. Uh, I shouldn't use "down", just tell us how it "went", ok ?

Cheers mate,

Jens

Thanks Graham,

hope Your eyes will be in a good condition soon.

We have enough beer here for You

Quick update as requested.

Amp did gig on Friday night. No issues. Blew me away actually. New speaker seemed to bed in fully at the half way mark. Smoothed out a bit, awesome tone. Amp seemed to be louder by quite a way, far less on Master volume settings. Guess that indicates that the speaker was in a bad way?

Still wary of impending destruction but the love affair is definately back on.

Great amp. Very punchy and sits in a mix brilliantly.

Hey Jens. Saw this and thought of you;

A man was passing a country estate and saw a sign on the gate. It read: "Please ring bell for the caretaker." He rang the bell and an old man appeared.
"Are you the caretaker?" the fellow asked.
"Yes, I am," replied the old man. "What do you want?"
"I'd just like to know why you can't ring the bell yourself."

:D

Great news, Graham. Thanks for that ! Glad you're happy again. How is your mum and how are your eyes?

Got the joke (this time) ! Haha. Not bad for a bloody Kraut, eh?

Cheers, Jens

Hey Jens.

My eyes are getting better. Back to the hospital on Friday. Bad news is that I seem to have passed it to my wife....... Can tell you thats gone down reall good!!

My Mum is in a bad way, she is up and down. Been in hopspital now since 1st June. She had a small op on her hip but has had many complications since then....

Its a very testing time for me really.

The gigging keeps me sane. As long as my amp don't break!!!!

Hey Jens, that clip you have done with Ch2 of the VH4. Great tone and a really cool tune. Is it part of a song? I find it very soothing. Send me an mp3?

Graham, please shoot me an email and I'll send you the mp3 .

All the best to you and your family and keep rocking!

Jens
