Is talking about acoustic guitars out of place for rig-talk?

Not to me it isnt, It is still a guitar

I do not have one anymore, But I love playing my G.f's cheap Ibanez Acoustic

It's funny you bring this up. I was just shopping Craigslist for a good price on an acoustic. Its been a while since I've had one.

I just restrung a nylon string Yamaha and have been having a ball. Let's talk acoustics!

I'd say that "rigs" are "rigs" regardless of type. I'm a forty-year veteran of the acoustic guitar and have had about as many (I currently maintain a half-dozen of them in my stable, but only a few mentioned in my Signature).

You wanna go there, I'll go with you! We can talk strings, bodies, parts, whatever ............I'm game!

Having said that, I'm only now (imagine that) just starting to get into Blues with a serious intent. That motivated the purchase of a Stratocaster (MIA) and a Telecaster (MIM) recently, and a Crate V3112 all-tube Amp. I'm having a ball!!

Choice of name brand, body style, wood, Tuning Keys, Bridge Pins, Nut-n-Saddle, strings, etc., on acoustics, are all topics that I'm capable of visiting.

Have at it!

Acoustics are great. I actually spend more time playing on acoustics then I do playing electrics. Always have one laying beside me.

I love my nylon string yamaha, but I don't play it much anymore.

Funny you mention this. Its been decades since Ive owned or played an acoustic, but decided to buy one anyway. I now have two, a Taylor 814ce and Martin 000-28ec. Im loving playing these and do so almost daily now. They have improved my technique and playing ability 10 fold. My finger picking is a new tool Ive acquired now. I didnt grow up with acoustic, I started on electric and have played them for decades. Since playing the acoustic I am finally building callouses and really improving as a player.

I play mostly mandolin when it comes to acoustic instruments. Anyone else jam the mandolin in here?

Cool...acoustics! Yeah I play a little mando....Many moons ago my wifes Grandfather gave me his 1934 Martin Model A moustache. Model A with a moustache you say...Yep had it custom made. I mess with it from time to time but I am no David Grisman!

A couple of years ago I spent every weekend for 6-7 months driving to big cities to try different models and brands of carbon guitars. Ovation 2080, C.A., Rainsong, even played an Emerald. One day I came home from work and there is a Rainsong JM1000 sitting in the livingroom. The wife had been with me the weekend before when I had play this particular guitar and really liked it. She ordered it for me the next day. I love this guitar, and the wife is a close second, well maybe third after my Les Paul, no fourth after my Gibson Dove I have had for 34 years!

Now 18 months later Rainsong comes out with the series with truss rods. So anyone play one of these? And anyone try low tension strings on a Rainsong? And I have been thinking about having it PLEK'ed at The Music Gallery in Highland Park, IL...any thoughts?

Oh and in my travels for a carbon I played Huss & Dalton, Collins, Breedlove, Larrivee, Munn, McCollum, Taylors, vintage and modern Martins and damn near every other highend boutique acoustic you can think of. Put them all aside, and hand me a McPherson!!!!

It's not technically an acoustic but I've been GASin' for one of these since I played one about a year ago.

I'm a huge Chris Whitley fan and since I can afford a real National it's as close to that sound as I can get.

And for the record I have a crapy Mitchel sitting around the house but I play it quiet often when I don't feel like firing up the DSL or Mark IV. It's a whole other world.

I sure hope not...

That is my main gig right now. Doing original acoustic guitar music. Still have the electrics and amps but more acoustic these days.

Right have a Takamine Koa EF508KC and a Yamaha APX900 (use this for open tunings.) I really want to try a McPherson.
Me too. My income, along with my desk job.

Sure Acoustics are cool. I am far from an expert on Acoustic guitars. I would like to get a really high end one at some point. I currently have a Martin DC-1E, Stella Harmony, and Guild F412.

As for rules, sure we can talk bass, keyboards, etc. The only thing that is forbidden is keytars. Though shall not post about keytars :gethim:
