That actually has a very good crunch tone? I'm talking from Led Zep to AC/DC. We all know that Engls are incredible high gain amps but that was were the Savage 120 and Powerball seemed to fall short. Yeah they had a crunch tone but nothing all that great. Invader? SE?

The Thunder is the closest. I had one that had great classic to modern rock tones. A bit looser than the more modern models. Great cleans too. Really a good amp.

The crunch on the black more sucked but the high gain was awesome.

Hmmm... my experience was exactly the opposite. The Blackmore head that was at my friend's shop was flat-out ACDC in a box. All other Engls that I've played were buzzy, high-gain beasts.

for those type of tones i'd stay clear of engl all together.

there are many other (and cheaper) amps that will do that just fine.

personally, i'd probably grab an old marshall or something like that and just be done with it :)

Oh dude been there down that. I'm mainlya boosted Marshall guy. Used to own the Engl PB and played the Savage 120 a few times. It would be great if someone would finally get the ultra high gain and killer crunch tones in the same amp. Well the Diezel Herbert pretty much does this but way to exspenive for a poor bastard like myself.

the PB II clips don't sound bad for that stuff?

Even though the SE has modes specifically for those tones, I was pretty disappointed. Great cleans / great high gain, poor anything in between. All those switches and it still couldn't cop a good zep tone.

On my Engl Gigmaster, you can turn up the input gain on the clean channel and get a nice crunch, at Least I like it

Well personally I hated it, especially the absolutely lifeless stiff cardboard feel. Out of the 30 tube amps I've owned that had crunch channels it was the worst. Not saying it can do those sounds tonally but uninspiring to me. Obviously ymmv.

Isn´t Engl coming out with a marshallish crunch model? Think I saw it in the Musikmesse coverage somewhere.

I had the 150 and then the 100. Channel two was awesome. Nice thick mids. Really good crunch tone a little more in the Marshall camp.
