Framus Cobra for a 2 channel revision F dual rectifier with the Mark III transformer + $300?

Good deal or no?

Price check on the 2 channel rev. F please.

With the $300 + it sounds like a good trade.

I think those usually go for $1100 - $1300 for the Rev. F. It seems like a decent deal at the moment since Cobras seem to have dropped in value. I bought my Cobra recently for $1200 and saw a bunch of others around that price.

hell no

I traded a cobra halfstack for a Recto only because the guy also gave me a mint PRS McCarty dark cherry sunburst
the Cobra is much superior tonewise, imo, and I never had a problem with it
the Recto got its power light broken on the shipping

I had a 2 channel triple recto...but it didnt have the sought after mark III transformer...so I am curious. i traded it staight up for the cobra last year.

Good deal?

Depends on whether or not you prefer the sound of the Recto or the Cobra...

This is what matters. Unless your trying to make money.

I like both tones of the two amps. I just want to be making sure this is a fair/good deal.

I honestly don't think it's a fair trade, but like I've said on other Cobra topics, I REFUSE to accept the value of the Cobra dropping below $1600 or so. It's a $3K head for goodness sake!

I paid $1000 even for my Revision F chrome/chrome. I put two KT88's and two KT66's in mine and it kills. Very cool amp.

+1 on this. I owned both amps. The Cobra owns the Recto.

++++100 i couldnt agree more, i even posted a topic about this ,if people continue to give them away ,they wont be worth more than a crate soon :codeak:

i got my old cobra for 900
rectos are far better amplifiers imo

It depends if you prefer the Dual Rectifier or not. I wouldn't do it, but it sounds somewhat fair.

sounds far in value, the Cobra is a great amp, but their resale is poor compared to new. That's not a recent trend either, it's been that way for at least the last 5 years. A rev F recto is one of the sought after revisions, so +$300 sounds like a decent deal to me. I don't think you would be losing out even if you turned around and flipped it. Adding in the +$300 on top, I think you would be getting the better end if you had to sell it.

I wouldn't do it unless you actually liked your 2ch TRec though. The differences are going to be subtle, and it's still going to sound like a Recto.

The "Mark III" tranny isn't really a Mark III tranny. It's just the stock 100W-er they were using at the time, and you'd hear no difference if you swapped in one of the later ones. It's the circuit revision that makes the difference.

Which incidentally was the transformer used in the Mark III, which kind of negates your argument...

I do find it funny that people never mention that the Rev G transformer is the same tranny that was used in the Mark IV.

Beyond that, I think you're right. The Rev F came with both the Mark III and Mark IV tranny, yet both have the characteristic Rev F sound.
