I've been looking around for an oversize mesa and got an offer from this guy but I can't tell if it's an oversize or not.

I only have his picture to go by.

Hmm, hard to tell from that pic. I thought I'd be able to tell by the distance between the speakers but I'm not sure, sorry.
edit: upon second glance, I think it's a traditional (smaller) cab, because I'm pretty sure the oversized slant cabs have a straight cabinet and only the speakers slant back. :dunno:

My oversized looks like that one, but I can't tell if thats oversized haha. Crazy pictures and weirding me out.

Yes, black piping = oversized Recto Standard.

Grey piping = Recto Traditional

Silver piping = Stiletto (same as Recto Trad.)

ah! How astute, I have never noticed that. You are the man.

Awesome. I'm going out sometime this week to get it I think.

The piping doesn't always tell that story. Just measure the height. If it's a shade under 30" tall, then it's a traditional. Don't include the casters. A tad of 32" inches tall and you have an OS.

He's having a lot of trouble with that cab...be careful. He says it sounds awful so I'm just warning you. Don't want to see anyone screwed.

No, I have one of each. I think the one that has a square box and the top speaker baffle is angled, is intended to be a bottom cab.

To the OP, it really is hard to tell from the photo but I think it is an "oversize". Ask the guy to measure it. The oversize cabs are approx 32"x30", give or take a 1/4". You can get exact dimensions from Mesa's website. If the guy won't measure the thing, I wouldn't buy from him. Just my two cents worth.

edit: I must be trippin' or the coffee isn't working yet this morning... From Mesa 32 7/8" h x 30 1/8" w

Height is the obvious thing to check when in person.
Providing the cab is stock and not a custom order from Mesa, the piping color will always determine the model of these cabs.

That's weird. I don't see a thing wrong with it..

We are gonna meet up on Tuesday about halfway from each of our places.

Not true. The cabs came with black piping on traditionals back in the recto day.
That cab looks traditional but its hard to tell from the pic.

^ Something tells me it is.

He sent me a picture of the back opened up. Does it look all good? He said it sounded thin compared to his Bugera 4x12 and that concerned me a little.

It looks like some of the screws are a bit loose as well.

I know that dude from the dean boards, he has nice guitars.

Eh oh well. Do you like your traditional?

It's weird though because Traditionals when they came out they had gray piping. Now they have silver. Why does this one have black? The older Mesas had completely different speakers in them as well.

They don't have to have those colors. My traditional is straight, has black piping. The older ones were rated at 280w.
I love my cab, it is excellent :)
