Is your amp's sweet spot at a volume that is unusable?

Looks like volume will always be a issue for me since I live in a attached Town House. It seems the Mark IV was one of the best amps for home playing, the Bogner sounds like complete crap to me when not turned up to a specific volume and now I might sell it  My work hours are getting longer as well, looks like I might sell everything off and go for a Mark IV rack setup with maybe a AxeFX for low volume playing. Time to start saving for a new home

Which Bogner?

I think your problem could be your cabinet. What are you using?

I agree that the MK IV is tough to beat for low volume playing as soon as you get that sweet spot on the master between tv and loud.

You can also boost the amp to get a more pushed sound at low volumes.

XTC

I ran it through the UberKab, Splawn 4x12 and a Mesa 2x12 the main problem is I play in the garage, and right above my garage to the left is a bedroom window, seems they are able to hear everything I play

The worse is the Splawn QR   That thing shakes walls!

With XTC there is no way to not disturb the direct neighbor above you.

Why exactly do you have 2 4x12s if you don't mind me asking?

Ditch all that stuff & get a Diezel. ;)

If you put something like a Rocktron intellifex in the loop, and turn the level down, it works REALLY well as a Master Volume, you can damn near get whisper levels that sound good. Might be worth a try...

With 2x12s you can at least avoid earthquake effect your neighbor probably has from your 4x12s. But hey, people play piano in their apartments with neighbors all around them. As long as you do it before 7pm they have to be OK with it :D , but not with a 4x12.

Plug your main head's speaker out into a Hotplate or load box......set Hotplate to load....run Hotplate's Line out to different amp's power section....turn up the main amps volume where it sounds good and turn down the HP's line out level to whatever volume you need....

Hmm, I hear alot of people doing this, guess I gotta try that out

  Wouldnt a Diezel Herbert be louder? I Just like the way 4x12's project, maybe I should try those port city cabs out. Well the Splawn 4x12 was going to be used with the Blankenship Variplex, hopefully that will resolve some issues assuming it can do low volume decently

The Ecstasy, Modena and Herbert all sound similar at low volumes. All pretty good to me. The Diezel and Modena probably have an edge on the Ecstasy at super low volumes.

If you decide to sell your Bogners (head & cab) let me know. I might be interested.

I love that amp :D

 If volume wasn't an issue I prefer the QR tone over the XTC for the stuff I like doodling with, maybe I will try that power-amp method

I personally don't know why anyone cares what their amp sounds like turned down while playing at home. I rarely even turn mine on at home and even when I do, I don't care that much how it sounds. It's not like I have an audience to impress or anything. If you're talking about recording at home I can see that, but still........ Just get a Pod or Axe FX to record with IMO.

I assure you,you can get a better tone with Herbert at much lower volume than with your XTC. XTC is more power amp section based amp, it needs to push the power tubes & the speakers to fully shape the 2nd & 3rd channel, although it sounds pretty good if you have a good instrument & dial it right at normal volumes.
I've tried Herbert with a single EVM12L speaker at low volumes & for personal playing it sounded killer. For recording 2v30 setup sounds better, but in the room EV destroyed v30s by a big margin.

It's more of a reason to play, I wouldn't want to play if my tones were shit to begin with, I tried the POD route and ended up not playing for a long time until I bought some tube amps again, maybe its just me but I just play for the enjoyment, I dont see myself being a fulltime musician anytime soon   . I could care less about impressing anyone, I just enjoy it. I also wanted to do recording at home as well.
