It is not the economy that stuff is not moving IMO

Sorry but after years and years of people cycling through gear like there was some sort of cure for suck the buyer well is just dry, plain and simple. The buyers have bought and bought and there is just nothing left to buy other than some new things down the pipe or cool guitars that show up now and then.

There are just so many diodes to try out from different men.

This can be said for ALL types of amps, not just one brand by the way. As much hype as my Cali mod has been given I bet I would lose money on it and it would sit there in the tumble weeds that was once flipper heaven.

Guys from the days will remember GMW stratheads, they lasted minutes before being sold. No longer. Why? Market has dried up, nothing to do with the economy.

New amps will continue to sell, I am sure Steve will have great sucess with his launch and many men will be romancing ralph and mike when it is time for the Randalls to launch.

The old stuff though? The well is dry so just play your amp and enjoy it.

IT IS NOT THE ECONOMY.

I agree. I have my guitar and amp needs more than covered. Everything out there is basically a variation on a theme.
Been buying pedals.... BSM Treble Boosters, which thru any of my amps is the ultimate 70's rock/blues tone, for me

Nice rant Scott.

It does seem hard to get excited about anything gear related these days, maybe I'm just burnt out on it.

Buying/selling seems like more of a liability now.

I agree and like Carl, I have what I need that works for me and Im happy. Every now and then, I do see something cool to check out but it ends there because If it isnt something that I already have or have played, its pretty damn close. In other words, been there done that...

The only thing that Im truly interested in is being a better player and thats about woodshedding, not gear

Not a rant, serious but an observation :D back in 2008-2009 this place was flipping Jose mods all over since lots of guys never heard of them and wanted them. 2008 I lost a ton in the market.......THAT was the time the economy sucked.

I did not beer bong out of UConn without learning something

From boom town to tumble weeds...

I agree. I keep it simple. I keep it to one new amp and one new guitar every year. No more! This builds the collection over time and leaves plenty of money for other things like family vacations, snowboarding, etc.

I respectfully disagree with OP  , for those of us lucky enough to have employment, many salaries raises have been minimal, limited or frozen in the last few years while we watch our gas, electric and food bills grow 50-100%

Allot of the buyers you speak of I believe are older members who have matured in their gear ways and have been through them all, only to cycle back to what works for them. Allot of newer members seem younger and do not seem big into the Marshal mods or high end gear. I agree with most of your assesment but the economy has definitely played a part as well. I think it is a combination of the two. It was somewhat of a RT circle buying the desireable amps in a matter of an hour or less. That circle is disbanded now. Many of these guys do not even post much if at all.

My raises and bonuses have been better than ever in the last few years. Most of the economy is psychological.
We are hiring more people now than in over ten years.

Agree, Scott.

I know what works for me, and have no interest in anything else.

I have bought new gear to cover new styles of music I am interested in. Would have never thought about a Dr. Z and a high end Tele before.

As far as other high gain gear. If it is great then it is worth a listen. The Atomica seems like a killer amp. And the economy is a factor. I have picked up used gear on the cheap. It is just like the housing market. If you have something awesome it will sell quicker, but still at a cheaper price. There are always musicians that are selling off gear quick cash.

This.

I can partially agree with the OP if he is just talking about this board. But there's no cure for GAS. Lack of $ will keep it in check for awhile. But once we find another asset class to inflate, and real wages stop decreasing, the insane buying and flipping will resume.

I am a firm believer there is a market availiable to builders of good products. That is one of the things that keep me motivated and vigilant to build custom amps. I believe there is a place in the world for quality handmade USA products.

Scott you are 1/2 right. The guys that were around 4-6 years ago probably are done flipping amps, they went through a bunch and found what works for them. Some use stock amps, some don't. The top modders/builders here offer what can't be bought at GC, and many people still want those amps. Right now nothing over a grand is selling in amps, anywhere. That is because of the economy. When people start spending again there will be a new wave of guys into the higher end mods and amps. The old timers here do not drive the economy, as you all are admitting, you found your sound, your amp, etc. It will be the guys behind you that seek "the tone" that drive it and the economy simply isn't cooperating right now.

This same cycle repeats in any collectible market.

Fender is going public for a reason. They need a big cash influx. It's the economy. Musicians will ALWAYS be on a tone quest. This place is a minute portion of the gear buying community. Very minute.

Partially agree, the economy affects some more than others. For myself I would usually be flipping gear like crazy but like you said I have gone through everything I have ever wanted to and now just enjoy the stuff that works for me now. If anything I will most likely be doing a purge and downsize because looking at the pile of gear I have accumulated is just ridiculous for someone who just plays at home. Amazingly I haven't bought anything in a few months, just been selling stuff off every now and then.
