Yes love John!
Always sounded to me like he perfectly blended his Schenker / Moore / Malmsteen / Sykes influences, with some great vocals as well.
One of the greats IMHO.

He really reached a new level just before leaving Europe in the '80s, too. They started out humble but grew by leaps and bounds in a few years, shame he didn't stay for at least one more album back in the day...

I was just listening to his "Face It Live '97" album, and its awesome. Fucking killer tones and playing.

Some of my favorite playing from John is off the Europe and Don Dokken albums. He is so underrated.

His solo on Superstitious is one of my all time favorites.

Although that one was not his, John wrote one of the Top 10 most memorable solos of the entire 1980s - The Final Countdown. That's an utterly PERFECT solo. I play it virtually every day at some point whilst warming up, usually with a bit o' delay. Heaven....

It has some similarity in certain parts to Rhoads' 2nd solo in Mr. Crowley and Zakk's in Mircale Man, but in a very different setting.

Wow....when's the last time someone played a new solo as great as any of these? It's been a long, long time....I remember when it used to be quite an event. A major part of hearing a new metal album, what will the solos be like?
