Finally got around to taking some nice pics of my J Custom. Loving this guitar.

Wow, sick top. I don't think I've seen many quilt-top J-Customs.

here is a KILLER j custom I got a few months back. it plays and sounds fantastic. I usually switch the pups out of my guits, but for some reason the tone zone, which I usually don't like sounds and feels good in this, and the air Norton is great also! I had to look long and hard to get one without the tree of life inlay. I am not a fan. but j customs are killer. this thing plays effortlessly. it looks similar in color to the first one in this thread. the guy I got this from was a collector so it was DEAD MINT!! I got really lucky!

Are the necks on these as thin as the original wizards? Loved em a long time ago but now they feel way too thin to me

I can't comment as this is my first Ibanez. I know this neck is called the Super Wizard and it is a lot thinner than I was used too, but oddly was extremely comfortable right off the bat. I always thought playing a thin neck would cramp my hand but I really like it.

Nice one, I actually really dig the tree of life inlay. I like the look of it more on the J custom as opposed to the Jem because of the abalone

Nice! I love the blue finish on these. I have the 7 string version and a 6 string in BBE. Might have to get rid of one of these though.. got a wedding coming up

So how would ya'll say these stack up against say a Jackson custom shop guitar?

they are amazingly nice guitars. I never gave them much thought until I played a friends. it sounded and played amazing. the build quality was as good as anything out there and I decided on the spot I needed one. I have a killer suhr modern and a les paul that is really nice and find myself playing my j custom a lot more than the others.

J-Customs stack up well against all of the brands that I've played (Jackson custom shop, Suhr, Anderson, Tyler, PRS, etc. etc.). Fit and finish is great, fretwork is amazing, great playability, etc.

The only con is that you cannot select any options, and the guitar's stock features are a bit divisive. The price of the new ones has risen dramatically, but if you like the vine inlay, it's probably still a pretty good price considering what it would cost to have similar inlay done on something like a Suhr Modern. Unfortunately for a lot of us, we don't like the vine inlay and I refuse to buy a guitar with a zero point trem, so no new J-Customs for me. I've prefer them to offer at least some models with dot inlay again and to go back to either the Lo Pro or the Edge Pro trems, which maybe they'll do eventually.

Im curious as to why there is so much flak against the zero point. This is my first Ibanez but I have been playing floyd originals for years now and I love this trem. I find it interesting that I can drop my low E to D on a full floating system and have it not go out of tune

^ For me, I'm just an OFR guy. I've replaced even Lo Pros with the Floyd and been happier. The Zero Point is even further from an OFR and the stud spacing and cavity routes aren't compatible with anything else. I'm very fussy with my guitars and like to find the right trem block and saddles etc for the guitar, but with the Edge Zero you're stuck.

The Zero Point is neat for the reason you mention, but you can achieve the same thing in a much less invasive manner with the Goldo Backbox, ESP Arming Adjuster or Ibanez Backstop.

But it seems that lots of folks like them? Ibanez apparently is backing away from them only because of a patent issue, and even then they seem to want to keep them around for certain models.
