I'm thinking about selling my old Jackson but I have no clue what it's worth in today's market.
It's an '83 or '84 Red Jackson Soloist with a Kaller made in USA with case.
Frets a good, some typical bumps and bruises for guitar this old.
Can any of you help me out and give me an idea what she's worth?

That’s a great guitar but folks are going to low ball you on the Kahler, I suspect.

Early 80's Jackson's are my thing. Love them. Its no Rhoads, but if its all original, and not beat to shit, dont take anything less than 2k for it. It might sit a bit, but if you have the time to sell it, not less then 2k. I would list it in my shop at 2999.99 to start, see if I get a bite, after a month, I would then drop it to 2600 and leave it there. Leaves room for negotiations. I would expect 2300 to 2500 bucks.

I'd love to see some pics... might help get a little better estimate, too. ;)

Edit... still don't understand why Kahlers aren't well loved. I get that they need more routine maintenance than a Floyd, but I think they sound better, sustain better, feel smoother, and with an actual locking nut (not a behind the nut lock), stay in tune just as well. I have guitars with both, and while they are different, I like them at least as much as a good Floyd. IMHO, I don't think I'd devalue it because of the Kahler... I think that's mostly Internet hype.

internet hype or not I think its true that the Kahlers are a bit below floyds pricewise - at least from what I have seen over many years.

I have no problems with a Kahler. I used one for years and the guitar sounded and sustained great. Cantrell sounds freaking awesome and the Kahler isn’t giving him trouble. But people do seem to pay more for Floyds.

They are well below a Floyd price wise. Like it or not that’s what the market says.

Agreed. Also, is it a Student or Custom? That will have a decent impact on the price. A Student with a Kahler won't get anywhere near the $2k that I saw suggested, IMO.

Yeah, I should have said that, IMO, "Internet hype" is what is driving the prices of Kahler equipped Jacksons down below an equivalent Floyd equipped. My only point being that, IMHO, Kahlers are just as good for me as Floyds are and I think their reputations are ill-deserved. However, be that as it may, prices are usually higher for Floyd equipped Jacksons. Personally, I'd pay as much for either, all else being equal, but that's just me.

I would still love to see some pics... ;)

I have sold about 12 of the very early Jackson both with Floyds and with Kahlers, just in the last 2 years. I have not seen this big price difference as a few that has commented have stated. I do this for a living so I'm very confident in the price I gave you. One thing I forgot to mention, that xzacx did, if it is a student the value drops a little bit, Id say 1500 to 1800 bucks. Again, condition is everything, and a pic would help greatly.

If it's a 2 hum custom, you could probably get 2k for it if it's in decent shape. If it's an hss then that price will come down a lot. Likewise it'll be worth less if it's a student (unbound rosewood with dots).

Thanks guys, I appreciate the help.
I think I just might list it on eBay auction Style and let the highest bidder take it.
I'll give you guys a heads up once I post it if any of you are interested in the guitar.

Thanks, a link to that auction would be appreciated. Can't say if I'm personally interested, but you never know. :)

Truth.

I'm gonna throw out 1500, I've seen them go for around a grand within the last year on Reverb or GC.com.

Kahler. "Reducing Value since 1983"

No one wants the hot pink, its either the fire engine red, or the black. So that's not a fair comparison.

What are you talking about ? The pink is a premium ! Try finding one. I’d buy a hot metallic pink Rhoads in a second !

But NOT at that price !!!

You'd get a fair price for it in the JCF forum. Most of the guys there are in europe but do a lot of wheeling & dealing for the vintage jacksons
