it's a japanese/korean/indonesian basswood copy w/ jackson pickups. his real signature guitar is an american-made, alder san dimas with fender/dimarzio pickups and a different floyd rose i believe (and retails around $2k).

it seems solid though and would likely sound killer with a pickup upgrade.

$500 street price. Made in Indonesia from what I read.

Floyd specials are horrid!!

With a Floyd & pickup upgrade which is only a few hundred I guess it could be cool

Thanks, I got the link in an email promo. Slightly deceptive marketing. I did confuse this with the US model, which I did locate and BTW it lists for exactly $2000.00 MORE than this one!!!

What is deceptive about it? What exactly is said that isn't true? If you don't want to pay the 2k, buy it and strip the shitty hardware, which pretty much everyone does (even on their high end guitars, ) replace the pots, switches, pickups, Floyd, tuners (if necessary.) Throw in a custom pickguard if you want. Go crazy and hook up one of the RS Guitarworks kits, or even an Acme Guitarworks Toneshaper. Then get it set up to your liking. You will have an axe equal to or better than the sig., but customized to your liking for way less. Just make sure you like the basic guitar itself.

As for it being deceptive, you really need to know what you are looking at. With Fender (and Fender owns Jackson,) unless I get an extremely good deal on a custom shop, I usually look for a really good MIM and rebuild it. Why? because they are pretty damn good. The main difference to me is the shitty hardware and electronics, and perhaps a setup. I strip all of that anyway. I just put together one of their Esquires. The MIM Esquires are pretty damn nice to begin with. I put in an RS Guitarworks Esquire kit and knobs, Callaham saddles, plates, screws, pickguard, and a Dimarzio Chopper T. I then had it setup up by my guy. The only thing Fender on it is the neck and body. Cost was $600 and it rips. He couldn't believe it. Would I rather have a Custom Shop Esquire? No.

If you look around a bit you can find the USA version for $1150-$1200 used. After you strip all the hardware/electronics and replace it with something equivalent to the USA version you'll have almost as much $ into it as you would buying the USA version used and you still won't have nearly the quality of wood as the USA version.
