Hey Guys,

Got called by a thrift shop to buy a bunch of guitars that got donated. One of them is supposedly a 1988 Jackson USA Firebird.

I know the Firebirds are pretty rare. This guitar does not have the small "Made in USA" after the Jackson logo but that said I know early ones did not and I dont think they made many Firebirds.

Anyway these are the best pics I could get, Is this thing a legit USA Jackson Firebird?

Looks like you found the real deal...hardware and pickups look correct, logo is right, inlays are right, and control cavity rout is right. Can't make out the serial number but stamped into the wood behind the last fret is correct, should read JXXXX. Those are rare and no longer made since the FMIC buyout. Nice find

Brad I think those pickups came out in the mid to late 80s if that helps.

brad pm me the serial ill call fender tommorow for you, looks legit!

Looks legit to me..But may be Japanese..99.99% sure it's japanese but still a cool find...They only made em for 1 year between 96-97...yeah...did some googling.. :D

Do tell. They didn't even make Japanese Jacksons in the 80's and I've never seen a neck-thru Japanese Firebird. If it has a "J" SN its US made.

Well, they did make japanese jacksons in the 80s. For the Japanese market. And they had the jackson logo like this guitar with no 'made in usa' on the headstock. BUT there were some USA's made without the 'made in usa' on the headstock. The 'J' would tell us if it was a USA, but yeah, there were 80s Japanese Jacksons out there.

Very cool update. Turns out it is a USA made custom neck through Jackson Firebird which is insanely rare, and then being a string through body makes it almost a one off I am guessing. Made in the early days of the Ontario, CA facility.

Serial Number in the wood at the end of the fret board is J4737 which puts it to a USA production date of 1988.

I wonder if it could have been made for Robbin Crosby of Ratt? He used the Jackson Firebirds regularly, and a US made guitar in '88 would have been right in line with his popularity.
