Jackson refinishing (Paint)

So here is the deal. I've done my Warmoth git with ReRanch products. I've come in possession of a Jackson body I wanna refinish for feces and laughter. I wanna do some slightly oddball colors, so I think I will have to go the the way of mixing my own colors. Question? When mixing an opaque up, it seems common to just add pigment to a clear carrier to make a custom color (atleast in regards to lacquer). Right or wrong? I was thinking of doing another nitro, but am open to acrylic lacquer also. I have a WoodCraft nearby, so can get either. The guy at the counter also mentioned going to an auto paint supplier and having them mix the colors for me in an auto paint, but I wanna try to stay away from reducers, hardeners, catalysts, etc. (hence ReRanch for my first proper refin).

I'm also trying to keep costs as low as possible, so I really don't wanna shell for $200 worth of HOK base paint, not to mention the other stuff needed to spray most auto paint and the clear on top. What say you, RT? Best way to make a colored instrument viable paint with the least headaches?

You could take it to your local autobody shop and have them spray it with the color you want. Then you can spray some nitro on it yourself.

Painting is a pain in the ass. I refinished a Charvel Model 2. It came out really nice, but it was a royal pain.

I don't mind doing the painting aspect, as long as I could keep it in the realm of one part paints (lacquers). I just don't wanna be involved in mixing in catalysts and different speed reducers, lol ..

I really just want to find the best way to make up colors in a lacquer. I don't know if it would be cost effective to take a body I got free to a shop to spray metal flake/glitter neon purple and slime green metal flake flames. Worst case I have another scheme I can paint with ReRanch preloaded cans, but that's plan B if this one is a pain....

What about a swirl finish, from what I've heard and seen in vids, it looks pretty easy, and can look completely badass...

Definitely not for everybody, though.

That red is sick... how about black with silver or gold?

Those are definitely sick, but not for what I got up in the noggin. When I think Jackson, I think glitter, spandex and cheap hairspray. I can get the flames done and stuff, but the color scheme I'd prefer would be neon purple flake body with slime green flake flames. With ReRanch (Plan B) I could do metallic silver or Placid blue flames and black body, but the most cheese goes with plan A, and I do enjoy some cheddar \:D/

They don't seem to have lacquer in white to mix pigment in (like one would with interior paints), and so far I've read to mix pigment into the clear to make your own colors, but that was on a dead thread somewhere on TDPRI. Just wondering if that plan is the norm...
