Hi guys!
I'm new to this forum but I've been reading it for a while and I really appreciate your help.
I own a beautiful Jackson Soloist SL3 and I love the way it plays, it's super comfortable and the neck shape is perfect for my hands. I bought it 6 years ago and at the time I was pretty in metal playing and hot pickups. Atm I prefer a different tone, more airy and low-gainy. My amp is a Fender HotRod Deville, so it can delivers stunning cleans (and non so stunning dirts). I would like to change completely the pickups configuration of my guitar to accomodate my new sonic tastes.
The guitar has a maple neck-thru-body and alder body and 2 hot rails in the neck and middle position and a JB in the bridge. I really dislike the JB, I found it too hot and with exaggerated mids. The hot rails are pretty good for leads sections but are a bit too dark sounding for cleans and they lacks the snap and upper range that I will welcome very much in crunch and, again, clean sections.
On the other hand in some situations, like slightly jazzy chords progression, the warmth is very pleasing and perfect for practicing.
Now, I was looking for a new sets of pups. I'm really into a Bare Knuckle's VHII in the bridge position and 2 Seymour Duncan Custom Stack Plus STK-S6 but I'm open to suggestions. Maybe the duncans are a little too hot compared to the vhII?
I play mainly prog rock, '80 rock and a bit of more technical stuffs, like dream theater. I'm looking for a very open and airy sound for the bridge hum bucker and a thick and p-90ish tone for the single coils (hum canceling).
Any suggestions?
Thanks guys.
