Didn't listen to the whole thing but that was great. I have days where I think JEL was the best pairing with Ozzy
of all the guitarist he's played with.

Tommy Aldridge doesn't get enough due - man is he fucking flooring the beats here.

I first got into Tommy with Pat Travers and figured he'd be a top name but he's always just a bit under the radar
when 'best' discussions get going.

Agreed. I was really into Zakk during the first two albums he did with Ozzy, but since then I've had a much greater appreciation for Jake. Randy and Jake are certainly different players, but at times it's tough to say that one was better with Ozzy than the other. I think we can all agree though that Sharon is just a cunt.

Both awesome players but RR was more straight ahead and JEL is outside the box more with the variety of links and stretches he pulled off. JEL is my choice if I have to choose. Randy was killer and aggressive live though. But JEL Def. Harder to play imo

I think it has been trendy to say that Jake was the most underrated guitarist for Ozzy. But to me he has been getting his due praise since the last 10 years or so. So Jake is no longer underrated; He is rated just fine..

Now the trend is to shit all over Zakk. But Zakk is a guitar god even if just for his first two Ozzy albums, alone.

And let's not forget

I watched that recently and Jake is my favorite Ozzy guitarist and one of my very favorite guitarists. Plus he had the coolest stage presence of any guitarist ever. Back in the 80's, and after the DLR era Van Halen ended, the three best players in my opinion were Jake E. Lee, George Lynch and Yngwie Malmsteen. Those guys were the sound of the 80's to me.

Any room for Warren D to elbow in? :poke:
Warren is of course right up there with those guys. Ratt sold a ton of records and I was/am a fan. I was already really into Dokken and Ozzy with Jake when Ratt started to explode. I was never a huge fan of Stephen Pearcy's voice so that limited some of my listening time with Ratt. As great a player as Warren is, I think George Lynch and Jake E. Lee were flashier players and had a bigger WOW factor to me as a young guitarist in my 20's. I then got big into Yngwie too like many players did at the time.

I never have cared for Zakk and I lost interest in Ozzy once Jake left. I loved the stuff with Rany and Jake. After that Ozzy became boring to me. Jake is still underrated at least in my opinion. And that is because after being a big deal in the first half the 80's with Ozzy he left and had some success with Badlands though his playing became more 70's based at the height of the 80's shred era. Plus his Badlands records are out of print and Atlantic Records will sue anyone who reprints them. The rumor is that this is because Badlands singer Ray Gillen knew he was HIV postive when he slept with some women and passed it on to them. I guess Atlantic does not want potential bad press or lawsuits over the re-release of those records. Jake also disapeared from the music scene for many years and a lot of people kind of forgot just how much of a badass player he was.

I haven't been able to stomach any of Ozzy's guitarists after Jake.

Zakk always dressed like he was the guitarist for the Village People

Not only limited but I never liked the timbre of it. Sounded too whiny.

Just listened to this again the other day - your list reminded me of it.

In the move The Charvel Gang, Warren says they took his Rivera Super Fender Champ, hooked it up to an EV 200W speaker in the studio and used it for his lead tone. Said he wanted to that same tone he was getting with that amp when he practiced.

With the Super Champ being so popular I wonder why Paul Rivera didn't make something similar under his own amp line.

This is all correct?

Agreed.. I always thought Jake had great stage presence! And of course he kicked ass on the fiddle

no shit? it sounds awesome. i always wanted to try a super champ, but even 10 years ago in my gear flipping hey day, they were like a grand on the used market, which was too rich for me, for what it is.

I think he's overrated, personally.
