I can't find any thing on this guy. Pics, gear, nothing. Anyone know anything about him? I'm really digging the first 2 Saigon Kick albums.
Yeah that's pretty much it. Pretty sure he used a dist pedal as well...think it was a DS-1. Could be wrong though on that.polaris20":o8bi3xxu said:http://www.bielerbros.com/index2.html
As for gear, he played ESP's as far as I know, and used the Rivera TBR-1SL a lot. I love his tone on The Lizard and Water.

One of my favorite bands..."Devil in the Details" has some serious rockin stuff on it.
Yeah I couldn't remember 100% on the pedal. Funny thing is i was just listenting to Devil in the Details...and pulled out all the other CD's. Also ran into "Moments from the Fringe" at a used CD shop but I wasn't going to fork out $50 bucks for it.SFW":2hscxmzi said:ESPs & Les Pauls loaded with Duncan Custom and Distortion neck models.
Boss DS-1 to "smooth out the amp"
Rivera TBR-1SL
I spoke with Jason, via email, during the late 90s. Very cool guy. I almost bought one of his TBRs, but the deal fell through when his manager got involved. He released an album with the group Supertransatlantic called shuttlecock. The band also had Extreme bassist Pat Badger in it. Some cool tunes, but overall left a little to be desired. These days he's behind the scenes kinda guy. Which is too bad, he was a huge influence on me when I was learning to play. Saigon Kick is still one of my favorite bands.

I spoke with him recently via email also; very cool guy indeed. He was gracious to a faut that I even wanted to know about his equipment.jabps":3kduzaly said:Yeah I couldn't remember 100% on the pedal. Can't remember but during that era Rivera made a cool head (wasn't the rack series) that was pretty badass...throw a SD-1 in front of them and you'd get real close to Jason's tone. Huge low end on those things but I can't remember the model...it was before the Knuckehead. Oh well.

He was definitely playing through a Rivera TBR-1SL. Those amps have the same preamp as the Rivera M and S series amps, which may be what you are referring to. However, the TBRs have a 'slope' control that the M and S series do not, which IMO, is the real key to his tone. Incidentally, I tried both at SD1 and DS1 in front (mostly as a clean boost to tame the lows), and the difference was neglible. I have a M60 that I play through a Genz Benz G Flex cab that can get real close to Water and Lizard tones, but it's that damn slope control that's lacking that really makes all the difference. (BTW, talk about an underated amp, the M60)...
It shifts the mids to different frequency ranges...that's my simpleton explanation. I'm sure someone else can chime in with a better answer.polaris20":1kjonqdu said:Interesting; what does the slope actually do?
Yeah I think the M100 is the one I was talking about...throw a SD-1 in front of those and you can get real close to that tone.SFW":1taf3fk0 said:The Slope control is a five position rotary switch that changes the frequency at which the mids are centered and where the "Mid" knob controls them. On the M/S amps, the mid knob is a push/pull that toggles between the two most popular ones on the TBR series. I've owned 3 M100s and you can get VERY close to Jasnon's tones with it. I need to pick another one up.
Yeah, and if you come across an M60, don't be afraid to check that out either (same preamp as M100). You should be able to get either for well under $700...and I'll challenge anyone to compare the clean channels on those things to any Rivera-era black face Fender.polaris20":35r644bb said:Wow, interesting. M100 is close you say? I'll have to see if I can find one.

He did not use a DS-1 from what I remember, It was one of the Orange O.D.'s, Super O.D.'s type Pedals..
With one of the Boss delays for live use...
