Ive had a Jcm 2000 TSL 100 Head that ive had for a little over 3 weeks and according to most of the marshall forum its regarded as a POS or Whatever Floats your boat "The DSL" is better... So im seeing some DSL's around for some fairly reasonable prices, Not the new DSL's as I already know that my TSL is superior to them. But what about the JCM 2000 DSL's? are they as great as they are revered to be? or is it just something that is more simple and easier to dial in than the TSL and then called superior? Im very tempted to grab a JCM 2K DSL and try it out as i have tried to find a guitar shop that has one within 50 miles of my home and failed. And for some reason up in Maine there seems to be a great lack of Marshall's for sale on Ebay or Craigs List... anyways whats everyone think? I love my TSL and the only way that i think it could be made better is in the classic rock tones, The TSL ive got screams late 80's,90's and everything since then but will still get down on some Master Of Puppets or Call of Kthulu or even "The Preacher" (testament)...

The DSL is popular because of it's used price point. $600 for a tube Marshall? Why not?........

Build quality isn't the best, but it can deliver some good Marshall tones. And again: $600 for a tube Marshall? Why not?........

I have a 2003 DSL. It's not my main amp but it has some very good tones in it. Great all around Marshall that works well for gigging, especially if your in a cover band. However, if your that happy with your TSL I doubt the DSL is going to sway you much.

Order one used from Guitar Center. Play it side by side with your TSL. Return it if its not superior to your ear, sell your TSL if it is. That's what is great about GC, you have 30 days to play it with your own equipment, then return, no questions asked. I can't believe more people don't take advantage of that.

My findings, the DSL is a touch looser feeling and more organic sounding then the TSL.

Here's what I found audacious about the whole thing. I have a DSL that has a clean channel and a dirty channel. The dirty channel has OD1, and OD2, which is a +20db boost. I bought a TSL and it had three channels: clean, OD1, and OD2. There were three perceptible differences between the two:

1. OD2 Has an independent EQ
2. OD2 sounds like ass
3. The TSL cost more

Understand, this is just one man's opinion, but I call that cheating. Add an EQ to something that already exists and call it a new product? Perhaps I don't fully understand the internal architectural differences, but that's what it looks and sounds like on the surface. Needless to say I sold the TSL and still have and love the tones of my DSL.

Im not in the arguing really about that last comment considering what you are claiming is superior is actually a glorified one channel head with a couple of extra knobs where in the TSL you have an actual eq for those 2 channels in my head No eq = no channel.

just a thought, maybe a boost/od might help get you those classic rock tones?

i'd say if you love the tones of the amp, keep tweaking , add some pedals to the mix and get close to what else you want out of it, i've flipped a lot of amps, only to find that maybe if i stuck to what i had more and tweaked i could get close or what i wanted in the first place

i've seen dozens of DSLs in action but rarely the TSLs , i've always heard that the DSL is the one to get in general , but haven't had a chance to properly try the two out, DSL is a cool amp in any case, some good marshall tones in there for the money, trust your ears in any case =)

Confused by this post. Saw where you responded to a diff post from a guy asking about a DSL in which I told the guy basically to go for it, awesome amp, ESPECIALLY for the dough they can be had for! You responded for the guy not to buy into DSL propaganda then you start a thread asking how the DSL compares to TSL? I've played both, and for me I'd take the DSL all day over a TSL and I have actually played both.

Not trying to start crap, because it seemed to me the TSL is everything you are looking for, if so why look any further and be so limited by shared EQ and inferior tone the DSL provides?

If the TSL works for you that is all that matters. If you need 3 eq's then I would keep the TSL. The sound difference from what I could tell is slight but it is there. As far as the DSL being called a single channel amp I would personally have to disagree with that as in my opinion it is a channel switcher with two modes on either channel. The clean/crunch channel is one of the best I've heard from a high gain amp and boosting it will kill you.

As far as something sounding superior or better is just a matter of opinion and should be taken as such.

To be honest both the amps are pretty much built the same DSL/TSL and even the newer DSL's are honestly from what I can tell a slight step up build wise. I would try to worry less about how the amp is built and more if you like the sound. That is really what matters.
