Took my Diezel VH4 to get checked out by Dave, and while I was there I figured I would bring in my JCM800 2204 for some mods. Been playing this amp since I got it back, and it smokes! The Brown Eye mod is the one I use the most by far. I am not into modern metal tones enough to use the Sat Switch very much, but I can see the Hairy Brown Eye getting used on some leads here and there. Thanks for what you did to the amp Dave. It will get waaaaaaaay more use now. You got that thing sounding perfect. The only downside is that it makes me want a Marsha even more!

congrats on the friedman mods...i love em too! funny,as much as i AM a high-gain guy,i seem to use the BROWN EYE mod most

My 2203 JCM800 just arrived at Dave's today for the BE and HBE with saturation switch! I can't wait to hear what that's going to sound like with my Diezel VH-4 together! It's going to be a long month!!!!

Imagine all the original character of your JCM800 being maintained but just the perfect gain stage added so you don't need a distortion pedal or anything. That's what it is like. It is not like the Cameron mods I used to get where it completely changes the tone of the amp and the way the EQ reacts etc. Dave's mod keeps all the original Marshall goodness of your amp and just gives you the sweet distortion you need. I expect to see a post from you when you get it back!!!

Well said!! I have never been happier with any amp. Love all modes!!!

Oh don't worry I will!!!! I also got the depth mod. The amp is a 1983 vertical input with the original GE 6550's. When I get it back I think I'm going to put JJ pre's and SED winged "C" 6550's in it. I really want this amp for more rhythm playing then leads.

My 2204 was a 1987 horizontal input, so yours should have even a little more balls than mine if it is a good one. I am warning you right now though, it is hard to stop playing the thing. The mod is sooooo worth it. I am hoping I can muster up enough cash this year to buy a 100 watt Marsha. The really cool thing about Daves mod is that it retains the character of the amp, so that a JCM800 sounds like an 800 and a JMP sounds like a JMP, plexi like plexi etc.

Anyone have an idea what the Marsha heads are going for?
