Hi

Could do with some good advice please!

I had a JCA50H and I'm having a trial swap for a Blackstar ID100TVP but should I swap back?

I love my Jet City; the OD channel is amazing but cleans are a little muddy and the shared EQ means its not overly flexible. I'm keen to branch out a bit and use some effects but the idea of pedals on the very small stage isn't very appealing and then there's the cost...

In comes Blackstar ID which is versatility in a box. It can store loads of patches and I can imagine recreating the effected parts that we've come up with in the studio on stage.

But:
1) The Blackstar isn't a fire-breathing tube amp (am I just being an old amp snob here?!)...
2) I rarely use my own cab and the Blackstar only has a 4ohm output, how badly would that affect volume on the 16ohm cabs I usually end up using?
3) I'm only going to get one rehearsal with the band before making my mind up hence asking for some second opinions...

So, to swap or to not swap and if not what's the best way forward with developing my Jet City sound; pedals, effects processors etc.

Generally I play alt rock so 90% of the time I'm on OD anyway but I like post-rock/indie stuff too and a bit of colour and variety on stage would be nice!

Some quick replies would be amazing as .

Oh and now there's a Peavey Valveking II 100 head in the mix! Help!

Thanks!

peavey jsx or the new xxx2 (same thing as jsx but satriani left and they had to rebrand)

If you're handy with a soldering iron there are simple mods you can make to the JCA to improve the sound of the clean channel.

Thanks for info.

The Peavey Xs look good but my situation is that I have access to the Jet City, Blackstar ID and Valveking on a trade basis with no extra cash required. There's also a Marshall MA100H going for peanuts which I could chuck a decent pedal in front of...

I think its between Jet City and Blackstar. The problem is they're so different that a comparison's tough...my gut is telling me Jet City and slowly grow my set up with a couple of pedals but I'm aware that new the Blackstar is worth £400 (including the control pedal) and the Jet City is only worth £270 so you'd think the Blackstar would be better...

not really given the blackstar is digital and the JC is valve. I have had a JCA and currently have a valveking (I also have a EVH) the JCA is in the soldano tone range while the valveking has a similar flavour to the EVH (kind of sits between the blue and red channel of the EV). The VK doesn't have the "sizzle" the EVH does, but it does have a nice clean channel, so given a choice between JCA or VK i'd go JCA
