Just pulled the trigger on one. GC had a $70 off coupon that actually worked for something. I have been through a bunch of "mini" heads and none of them really did it for me. Hoping this one is a keeper. Who's rockin' one?

I have a JCA20h and the 112. It's a cool little grab and go rig. It'll cut through the mix. It's got a nice feel to it. It's fun to play.

There are some downsides. The tone is kind of nondescript. Nothing particularly interesting about it, but it still tube tone. The 20h doesn't do clean at all. Maybe the 22h is better equipped for that.

I've still got it around. I picked up both for $300 (with a fx loop installed). It's works really great for $300 and is easy to carry and if someone comes over there is a rig for them to play that is adequate.

I think they are cool little amps, but they don't have a tonal character that you're going to write home about. I don't think it will ever be anyone's signature sound.

I've been considering modding mine to be more like a JCM800 or perhaps more plexi-ish, just for the hell of it.

Thats cool. I pretty much just want a grab and go head to go with my 1x12 that will do a decent marshall crunch for classic rock stuff. I figured I'd buy new from GC with a coupon over used in case I don't dig it I can return it.
They do seem pretty mod friendly.

they are great for crunch through screaming high gain, the only thing I didn't like was the crunch side never cleaned up to a really clean sound. Other then that though it's a GREAT amp.

send it to brian he will make that an awesome amp

I bought a 20h brand new directly from Friedman. He put his HBE mod and Saturation switch on it and it sounded incredible. $550 total, IIRC.

I picked one up used for a pretty reasonable price. Not a bad little amp, but if I had to do it again I'd probably would have just held in to my cash.

  This is how I have felt after many gear purchases. Trying to stick to the lower dollar stuff lately so it doesn't sting as much.

I have a stock JCA22H and I love it. I don't know what everyone's struggling with trying to get clean tones or thinking that the amp needs modification. This amp is BADASS and can dial up just about any tone if you have any patience and understanding. I think most people mod these amps just to say they're modded. I've never had an issue getting a great tone on either channel.

I guess it's like people who put salt on their food before they even taste it.

I agree that you can get some great tones from these amps. In my case, I just couldn't pass up the chance to get a brand new Friedman modded amp with the HBE mod and Saturation switch for $550.

Ok so I got the amp today. I gotta say it's one badass little amp! I took me about 30 seconds to dial up a good tone on the crunch channel. I could live on that channel alone. The OD channel is just a bonus. Sick amounts of gain there. I really didn't think I would like this amp, I really didn't want to like it it.Figured I play with it a little and return it. After all it's kinda ugly, its made in china and it's cheap. But fuck it it rocks! I have been through most of the mini amps, the Blackstars, the Egnaters, the Tubemeister, and the Mini Rec also. So far this thing sounds like a keeper.
