Hi Guys

Long time lurker first time poster.

I've just picked up my JJ (its a stone cold killer) and am currently running it through an old Mesa Rectifier 4x12, which is probably past its best.

Will be buying a Friedman cab but given UK stock is so limited there's no chance to test back to back, so I'm not 100% sure whether its the BE or Vintage that would be most ideal pairing with the JJ.

Unless I order one (and wait) the only 4x12 in UK is the BE cab in the std V30 / Greenback config.

Thoughts?

James.

Vintage cab or regular cab is the same speakers. It's just the grill cloth that is different. Which does change the sound a bit.

Thanks Dave, in what way?

Also what config of speakers does Jerry run in his cabs?

Regards,

James.

If it has a thicker grill cloth, that will dampen some of the highs.

What he said. Jerry uses 1 cab with greenbacks and one with v30 speakers. He uses 2 amps.

Thanks Guys, sounds like the stock BE cab is the perfect combo then - what coincidence!

I was going to say the same thing. I'm not sure if the JJ is a little darker or warmer than a BE100 but if it is I'd get the black cloth since it's a little thinner. But thought even Friedmans black cloth is a little thicker than normal "Marshall" cloth. The vintage cab is what I got and I love it with the BE100. Out of all my years, I've never heard that much difference in grill cloth thickness. I'm sure it's there but it's nothing I've ever noticed in a band mix. One of the main reasons I got salt n pepper is cause I play my Bogner Siva in stereo sometimes with my BE and the cabs match except Bogners pattern is horizontal and BE's is vertical.

Hey Mr.Dave, do think the thicker vintage cloth can still get the same tone as the black by just bumping up the presence or treble? Dumb question I know..

A bit but nothing you can't get back with amp settings.
