gotta order some new tubes soon and was thinking about giving some JJ's a whirl. Will be going into my DSL and/or my Voodoo Bogen Vplexi.

Well i find the EL34 sounds more like that classic EL34 tone we all know and love. The E34L sounds a bit more modern, to my ears it has more top end and low end than the EL34. That can be a bad thing in some amps, but good in others.

In my Cali JMP 100w, i'm using the EL34 and i think they sound great!

I am really surprised you have kept the JJ's in your Cali this long... ;)

I have used some other tubes since first putting in the JJ's a while back. I used a set of Ruby EL34B-STR's for a while, but they were dark sounding so I came back to the JJ's for now. I still think the Winged C 34's sound best, but these JJ's sound fine so i'll just wear them out and then when it's time to retube, i'll put in some Winged C's again :)

I have the E34L's in my Laney GH-100 and my Trainwreck clone and they sound fine....

I like the L's for the DSL and higher gain amps. I also dig the SED's. Sometimes I think the SED's have a little to much going on and with high gain amps, it tends to make the amp to messy sounding in my opinion.

I had some E34Ls in my Boogie that I thought sounded great - they just got damaged by FedEx shipping my amp back from a couple of gigs this past week, so when I got it back I stuck an old set of EL34s (and two vintage RCA 6L6s I've been hoarding) into it (wanted to make sure it was just the power tubes that got hammered, and not the amp -luckily it was just the tubes!) and now I kinda think the EL34s sound better...

Is it the Mark III you have?

If so, try using 4 x Sovtek 5881's in the amp. I tried loads of different tubes and those cheap Sovteks sound incredible in the Mark III. Definitely the best sounding out of all the tubes i tried :) And the best part about using those... It's super cheap each time you retube!

I use them in my Matchless Chieftain...they kind of bridge the gap between a 6L6 and an EL34 in that amp with sweeter highs and bigger lows than an EL34 yet a bit woolier than a 6L6, YMMV.
