So I am ready to buy my next high gain amp and am considering the JJ. Thing is, while I am a fan of Jerry Cantrell I am not necessarily a fan of his tone as I find it rather dark. Almost every demo is of someone playing AIC tunes, not really my thing. Is the voicing such that it favors dark tones. I almost think that I should be pursuing a BE-100.

Thoughts?

not sure whether you've seen this one but he's playing through the JJ in the beginning and it isn't AIC riffs.

Just get the BE-100, if you're not a Cantrell tone fan, then you'll be just fine with it!

I'm a casual fan of the AIC tone although it's certainly not all I play. The voicing is in that vein but you can still dial in early VH and 80s hard rock tones on the BE channel. I also like the clean a lot more on the JJ than the BE or the SS. I have the additional volume on the JBE channel that's footswitchable so you can use it just as a lead boosted channel for solos where the "darker" tone might actually work better for you.

i dont find the JJ dark at all on the BE channel.

because of how articulate the amp is, i actually find that it can sound brighter at times than a BE - there is A LOT of string seperation and clarity in the JJ. that being said, the nature of the gain is a little bit different than the BE (even when in BE mode) - but its not a 'dark' thing that makes it different

Thanks Journeyman73 & Yankeebulldog. I do enjoy 80's metal, Iron Maiden, Priest!

i think either amp is fully capable of delivering 80s metal - i grew up on that and so i think predisposed to that tone.

the BE is slightly smoother to my ears. the JJ (in BE mode) has a timy bit of extra grit or sizzle to me...but they are quite similar.

i ised to think there would be no reason to get the JJ over the BE unless you used the JJ mode - after all, you give up all the swtiches on the BE for a mode yore not going to use on the JJ...but ive come to feel the JJ is just different even in the BE mode.

good news here is either would work great

So how well do you think the JJ will pair with my Uberkab, front loaded X-pattern Celestion Vintage 30's and G12T75's?

you'll be stoked. The JJ can def cover the BE tones IMO and then some. The clean channel on the JJ is super 3d sounding too.

I'm interested in hearing how you like the amp when you get some time with it, and how it compares to the Rev Green Uberschall!

Sure thing, but I suck at describing amps. Two different amps.
The JJ has better cleans, actually no contest.
The JJ loop is also better.
The BE channel gives me my 80's kick.

The Green Ch2 sounds massive ( what I think when I think High Gain). I did not buy it for it's cleans.
Surprisingly quiet!

All in all, both are keepers.

Awesome, thanks! I recently played a Rev Blue, and I'm wanting to play an Uber again.
Does the BE or JBE channel get close to the Uber if you hit em with a pedal?
