I think it was ok. But you knew he wasn't getting too much fancy due to the nature of the event.
He did good.

I'd rather have Orianthi rip it up. :D

I thought it was beautiful and I think it was good of the family to have him play there!

I loved it, thought it was very tasteful and well played. :)

One cocksucker's tribute to another. How ironic. I wonder if John slept in MJ's bed when he was a kid?

It was really good that John didn't sing. That woulda blew it. Way to let that relic strat and the Two Rock speak volumes.

I hate John Mayer and I did't write this but, any one that would celebrate his life/death... sucks! IMHO. Please read...

OK, I'm sorry, but somebody has to say it. I am already very tired of the headlines concerning how "the world is morning the loss of Michael Jackson." Even the Pope made a statement about the great loss to humanity . . .
Folks, we have young men and women giving up their lives for our country and the freedom of others every day. There are young people in Iran who are probably going to be beheaded because they support free elections.

There are thousands of children and girls kidnapped every day for the sex trade in Africa and the Far East. And yes, there ARE starving children in Africa . . . STILL! Michael jackson is not a humanitarian. He has squandered millions on his own lavish pleasures. He is not a spiritual man. He was a odd little man who (may or may not have) fondled little boys. Quit anointing him to Sainthood.

I have friends who died in the jungles of Viet Nam 35 years ago and their memory and their sacrifice are STILL more important to me than a dance video. "Thriller" did not change my life. The loss of brave hero friends changed my life.

You want to mourn something? - Then mourn the homeless, mourn the abused children, mourn the abused women, mourn with the family of a fallen soldier, mourn for the veteran who served his or her country and now spends dreary days in dilapidated hospitals.

If you want to celebrate lives . . than celebrate the teacher who taught you to read, celebrate the coach who showed you how to kick a soccer ball, celebrate the clergy who stand with you in times of sorrow, celebrate the lives of those who hold you in their hearts daily . . . Celebrate your friends, your children, your parents, your siblings.

"Nuff said...... I'll get down off of my soapbox...

Fuck MJ and JM :(

Whatever. He was a great musician and a legend to pop music. THAT'S why I celebrate his life/death. All this hate is retarded. Yes it is stupid that the media hounds this to the point where even the pope says he was a "great loss to humanity," but so what, that's what the media does, and what selfish individuals like us are sometimes intrigued by. I didn't even watch the funeral. As far as him being an incredible person, how the heck do we know that? So screw the media on that too. He seemed cool I guess, but I didn't know the guy. I'm sure half of that stuff will never be known to be true/false, whether he touched boys or was an incredible father (or both, which would be weird  ). And sure its interesting to see on tv, which is why so many people make such a big deal on this, but all I'm saying is that he was an incredible performer who had great music (for the most part) and obviously made a HUGE impact on music and performance in the 20th century. What's not to celebrate about that??? Obviously a lot when you compare it to world crisis and things that we always take for granted. Or how MJ obviously didn't know how to handle his money. He also had huge issues and did drugs. This is no different than how we idolize Hendrix on all the stupid "100 most influential" guitarists polls...

Bottom line: Yes it sucks that this gets more headlines than what would ever be discussed about crisis's around the world and the freedom that most people will never enjoy like ourselves. I do mission work and I pray for people like that. I still appreciate/celebrate MJ's contributions to my greatest passion: music. That's it. In the long run, its not ALL MJ's fault he's taking up most of the airtime. Just the media. Which causes society to suffer, since most people aren't aware of what's going on in the world.

And John Mayer? Loved it. And I agree, I'm glad he didn't sing.

Didn’t watch and MJ stuff today. Sure he had some good music back in the day, but once he got weird, I stopped liking. I personally don’t like the pedophiles. Besides, I dont care for Mayer either.

+1, the guy's career ended after Thriller IMO.

+2

however Smooth Criminal was a good tune

Yeah, he had boys...Just boys, sleeping in his bed with him. That's a fact. Whether or not he touched them, it does not really matter. Any guy in your neighborhood sleeping with boys? If he did, I guarantee he would be run out of town, investigated, and cast off from society as a pervert and that would be the least of his worries. Instead, he MJ got a free pass. Whatever. At least he won't be able to screw up anyone else's childhood and life anymore.

Why does everyone have to inject some fucking political agenda in MJ threads? The point of me posting was to share the musical performance so we could discuss the playing and tone not to debate whether the guy was an asshole or not. I thought this was a guitar forum, not CNN.

Matt, I thought the tone sucked and so did the performance.

  And Mayor is still a douchebag. :D

I'm FAR too lazy to get into these type of time consuming arguments, but the quote is moronic, being fallacious at best. Of course there are causes that require attention and heros that deserve to be remembered, but not to the exclusion of celebrating anything else. So, what, do we stop celebrating birthdays and mothers day? Really, we shouldn't even be going to amusement parks and blowing our cash on gear, because there are causes that require our immediate, full attention and resources.

I'm curious, how many people who hold strong opinions about MJ actually went out of their way to find out what really happened in court? I find that most have formed an opinion based upon what was reported on the news. Perhaps some still haven't noticed, but the media reports accussations all of the time, but rarely if ever come back with the actual findings.

I'm about to ramble, and have no desire to get tied into an argument about this, so I'm done.

Alright, go ahead and tear me up... aaaannnnddd, go!

Dont you guys think that the ceramony, while tasteful, was kinda creepy at the same time?

I think it was great, the ceremony was very tasty and not "show-like" at all IMO

Mayer's performance was great, very classy and even though I like his singing, he knows it's not his strong forte.

Check this out

Doesn't matter, what did you think of the playing and tone?

I don't have an opinion on the playing and tone, but a large middle aged women just choked on a Big Mac and died in Kalamazoo Michigan. I think we should all feel sad, and maybe write some tribute songs.

If you can watch that Larry King/Mayer interview, and STILL hate on the guy, then there's zero hope of ever changing your mind on him.
