Anyone know what he used ampwise to record this album?

I know he's used Mark Cameron's amps on Another Destination, but didnt think he was using them before that CD. So im guessing its not Camerons on Face The Truth... Maybe Jose's? I know he used them during the Don Dokken - Up From The Ashes CD..

I think you need to hook me up with his CD's. Only one I have is Total Control. :)

I fucking love John Norum....he's a great player, and I love his Thin Lizzy covers. Wild One and Opium Trail for teh win!!1!

Sup Dan!

Mark Cameron would be the guy to ask becuase Mark is friends with John and he has a handle on what Gear Norum used even before he started using the Camerons.

I know he uses Michael Schenkers old 2205 on some stuff. It`s a 110v version with a transformer, because it sounds nicer that way. Mike`s tech is bugging him, he wants it back, but he keeps telling him it`s broken

Hey Ralph!

Good point, i was thinking of asking Mark because i remember him saying he was good friends with John since the early 90s! I will send him a PM, and see what Mark says!

I have that album that is in your avatar on vinyl.
I got it in a lot of LP's i bought and never listened to it.

If I remember correctly Mark did say it was a Marshall 2205 that was prettty much stock. He just did some basic service on it. My guess it was one of the later ones made around the mid to late '80's that had way more gain than the earlier version ch. switching 800's.

I dont remember Mark saying that about this particular album though, i know he said the stock 2205 was used on the Europe Start from the Dark tour!

This tone sounds different to his new sound though, its more like his old Don Dokken/Live In Stockholm sound!

You are right. I forgot the op was asking about this particular album. I think that Mark did say that J.N was using them for a time though.

Im sure you are right about him using them for a while, i dont know for sure but i think John's been using those 2205's since touring with Dokken in 2002! I did have a picture somewhere..

Mark and I have talked about Johns tone before, quite a bit actually. I really like his tone on the "Face It Live" album from 1997 and Mark told me that album is definitely the Marshall 2205's. KIller tone on that.

Ive always found it hysterical how the 2210 and 2205's always used to get panned by hardcore Marshall enthusiasts because of the diode clipping. I've always liked the tones that you could get out of them and I always shook my head when I heard people bitching about the diodes.

Yeah ...diodes shhmiodes  The tones from them are great. BTW there is a nice "sticky" in the archive section on the Marshall Amp Forums about the 2 different types of ch. switching 800's made and Marshall never said a thing about it.

Dan,
I had the chance to see John Norum live with DOKKEN in a small club in DENVER it was a great show, I e-mailed Mark before about John's rig and he told me he used a stock JCM 800 with either KT-77 or KT-88 tubes? He couldnt remember at the time, maybe some merlot was in the way but thats what he had said to me. I cant wait for my CCV-100. Anyone hear when they will finally ship? I ship out of IRAQ in late October so I have time. But I cant wait. We have a planning consideration in my unit for combat operations "Dont rush to failure" so maybe Mark is getting all aspects exactly how he expects them! I would like to see your collection of Norum CD's

Hey bro!

Yep, that was the 2205's with KT88 tubes that he is/was using then. He gets an awesome sound from those heads, they sound great for his style!

Im sure Mark is working his ass off on the CCV-100's and making everything exactly how he wants them. I know he's a perfectionist with his work, so im sure when you get the amp it will be spot on what Mark was aiming for!
