I think the 5150 could work... The guy in the Atomic Punks could dial in a non-5150 tone lol...
Sykes would sound good playing pretty much anything IMHO

His son, who is in a metal band recommended the 5150 and they found an old one for sale right down the street from him so he bought it to check it out--and he had heard about some mods for it and I recommended he contact Jerry P/FJA. While he likes it, he actually has already sort of moved past the 5150 and is working on getting something else for live use. He is also aware of the existence of Cameron amps.

So is he currently working with something other than a Cameron??

Yes. John has never played through a Cameron Amp other than a few minutes on my Cameron modded Marshall back in 2004.

Love Sykes, looking forward to the new project with Portnoy (as long as they don't let Portnoy near a mic...)

Is that still going to happen?

One of my favorite players. Report to Amazon(or wherever) and get this if you don't have it. Long out of print, it has been recently made available to download.
Also get "Loveland", which shows a different side of John's playing and esp. songwriting.

John Sykes destroys!!!   I wish he would put out something. It has been quite a while!!

his joses are perfect ones. that sparkly top but thick and rich with lots of sustain.. its weird how two identical circuits can sound so different but he has two twins..

Being an early 90's grunge kid, I am late to the Sykes party but found out about him while watching Aldrich videos (who is basically Sykes Jr. IMO). Monster of a player. Love his style!

What timing considering your new/old guitar purchase Todd. First started following and heard about him during the Tygers years. Funny how those years seem to be lost around here.

Now, that's metal playing that has feel to it done in good taste IMO. Lean into those notes. I think I am going to get those back into my cd library. Those were the good years. A Cameron amp would certainly compliment his style of playing.

Truly amazing!! I saw him in a small club and have never heard a tone since that was comparable to what I heard that night. One of the all-time greats for sure!

Hes a bad man; Chops, feel, soul, songwriting and a killer voice to go along with it.

Drew, is he living in the states or back in England and why the hell havent we heard or seen much of anything fromthe guy in quite some time?

Kage

great player, sykes has some of my favorite tones and solos i have ever listened to.

Chops given..tone...understood...but FUCK the guy sings better than 90% of bands we like from our time period and anything out today!

Just listen to Whitesnake 87, sounds close enough but better.
