and want to know if any owners or previous owners have any particular boosts or overdrives that they felt worked well with the ole herbie

thanks!

Oh hey there :D I'd also be interested in others opinion on this. I don't think the Herb really "needs" a boost for most situations. But with lower tunings(8 strings) I will use one. I've found that the Maxon od808 works pretty well for me. Or the Xotic bb preamp. I usually set them up for a fairly mild boost. Whereas on most other amps I tend to boost hard.

Peter's response just made me laugh out loud at my desk. I get that some people are into the boosting thing as almost a kind of sub-culture, but man... molesting that amp on the way in is like putting Wal-Mart steak sauce on a perfectly-marbled, perfectly seasoned steak.

hahaha I said the same thing when I read this. But to each his own, I guess....

It is not really a "boost" per se, but I do use my Boss EH-2 at the end of my pedal board. It adds some chime to and clarity that's getting lost in the signal path. It's like night and day. Due to financial reasons (thanks Diezel stack) I haven't been able to invest in quality, high-end cables, but I suspect once I do I might not need the EH-2 any more.

Adding a boost or overdrive is contra-indicated....Especially if you just got the amp...I would advise using and tweaking the amp without any pedals at all until you see what the beast is capable of......Would you take a shower with a raincoat on?....Drink "Lite" Beer?.....Drive your new Porsche only 65 mph?....I hope not!!!

You've not been around here too much, but your advice is sage and smart. I don't boost or OD or dirty up any of my Diezel amps. They oughta be good straight outta the box. If you're nailing low tunings, roll the preamp gain back and let it open up a bit. It'll keep the bass in check and also cut better.

You know, maybe when, IF, Peter Builds a special custom OD made for Herbie i'll waste my time with it.... otherwise, enjoy the kings of all amps as it!

I run an OD9 or TS808 in front of mine. Volume on the pedal all the way up, overdrive all the way off.

I run a maxon 808 in front of mine with the overdrive turned WAY down and the volume up a bit. Tightens up the low end and allows you to use a shit ton of it. The difference is actually pretty small in sound and it has more to do with feel for me.

No boost needed... my one that is loaded with 6l6's is tight just spend some time with it.

Mine is by no means loose at all. With a boost it's really really precise. Sloppy players need not apply ;)

i like the idea of rolling back preamp gain etc that generally works with a lot of amps, but i ended up buying a blackstar HT-drive, and it's actually pretty f-in A, not a huge difference but enough to make me think along similar lines of the duders above who want that ice picky stuff sound,

really great drive pedal, but honestly the herb don't need no boost/overdrive realistically it's great as is, it's a matter of pushing the f-cker to get more tight ness on the 8th string

regards mates

One of the best "boost" pedals going is the Suhr Koko boost which is a clean boost and mid boost all in one. Absolutely fantastic sounding!
