Holy Fukk! What an incredible amp to tape. Wow. Effortless too, I just plugged it in and everything was set at noon. That is probably one of purist overdrives I've ever heard recorded. Fantastic. I am blown away at the tone of the crunch and the feel. I'm uploading a video from today, it has a lot of bass stuff at the beginning but I put a 2 minute clip of the 6505+ at the end, I will post it when it's done.

Imagine that, in a world of expensive modded amps, yet another 600$ used amp does the trick stock! Look forward to the clips

Yeah it's surprising that people are so surprised that these amps sound great. They were designed by the dude who's tone has been chased since 1978, what did you expect?

Whats funny....is when people ask about the EVH tone....
nobody mentions peavey.
I remember on the crunch channel....little delay....
it was nuts on Van Halen tone.

Actually it was designed by James Brown for the dude who's tone has been chased since '78

I've been an original owner of my 5150 II for going on 7 or 8 years. Absolutely love it. No 5150 III gas here

Some of the best tones I ever recorded was with an original 5150...with the 5150 cab. Probably the only amp I've ever been able to record with the exact settings as I used live.

i love mine...it's a beast.

i've upgraded some internal components, made some tweaks to tighten the bass and get rid of the flub, and did some mods to it that are on push/pull knobs so i can have stock/modded, and it slays.

there are so many tones in it now, that, even though i want a mark V, i could play it for years and not need another amp.

Yeah there are lots of amps i'd love to own but my FJA modded 5150II ain't ever getting sold off!!!

I have to say... seeing as how you are such an awesome studio dude I'm really surprised you are just now figuring this out... the 6505 ROCKS for recording... for the exact reasons you just said, it records effortlessly, glad you are finding new goodies after working in the studio for so long!

I had never had one in my place. I played one last year at the Peavey store on Sunset in Hollywood and loved it and it has always kind of been stuck in my mind.

Here's a clip of the 6505+. Unfortunetaly it's at the end of a bass video. If you can make it through it there's a couple of minutes of some Peavey.

Every time I get a 6505+ or a 5150 variety in for a retube, I end up jamming on them for a while and thinking how friggin' good those amps sound.

Sounds like the low mids and bass is emphasized in that amp. Love the crunch though and the slight compression i hear for the leads. A little easier to play than a JMP i'd think.

Call me crazy, but that Splawn killed the Peavey. Such clarity and definition!

I think the fun part too is it doesn't sound like a modded Marshall. It's nice to hear something fresh.

Dammit, I haven't played my 6505 in far too long. Gotta make some time for it soon.

The splawn was definitely clearer but you can also hear how stiff it is and is shaved in the bass department. Would prob cut better in a live mix though.

but in metal they are anything but fresh ;)

I have had 5150s, the 5150ii and it's fourth-world country manufactured counterparts (Bugera lol). There is a reason these amps are a standard. They sound awesome and I spend my time playing them instead of tweaking. I have a Tremoverb and while it sounds great, if I change guitars or change cabinets or strings I am up twisting knobs and flipping switches because everything is so over-sensitive. 5150s are the definition of plug and play guitar amplification.
