Just did this mod to my friends Marshall.

OD2 to OD1 conversion

This modification turns the OD2 Channel of the JVM410 series or the OD Channel of the JVM2 series into the OD1 Channel of the 410 series, for a more "classic Marshall" tone.

No offense to anyone that owns a newer Marshall but for the $$$ they are built real cheap. Not impressed at all. Amp sounds OK. Just feels really plastic like and cheap. Even the transformers seemed whimpy. Nice little combo to carry around but I wouldn't expect them to hold up to gigging. Anybody else here do this mod and what are their thoughts?

I'm not sure what year the one you looked at was but I have a 210 head 2007 made in England version and it's built like a tank. Miles better than the new DSLs the have released, in terms of build quality and construction.

Also, I believe Maiden Fan here on this forum has gigged with 205 head and tour with it for 5+ years with zero problems. His is also a 2007, I'm not sure if production changed for later ones but I think the older ones are pretty good!

As for the mod I didn't like the OD1 when I played the 410 so I won't be doing that. I am interested in the "blackface" clean mod, negative feedback adjustment knob and adding a choke.

Should be cool!

I have also had a few JVM and they have all had good build quality
I had a JVM205 fall off a stack of cabs, it hit the floor and bounced and I put it back on the cabs fired it up and it was in perfect working order

Not saying it's a bad amp and not trying to compare it to a boutique amp I just thought for the coin they are getting for them they would be made with better stuff. The cabinet seems solid (MDF) but even the pots were plastic and had no nuts to help secure them. I am sure this is the way all stuff made in China is but I was very disappointed. Again the amp sounded pretty good but if I'm spending 2K on an amp it better be made with better shit than this thing.

My buddy picked this thing up today and he loved it. He is real happy with it and now wants to close of the back of the cab. I suggested not as I think it would get to hot and cook the tubes. He has a 2x12 closed back and I suggested he just plug it into that. The tone on this thing was pretty good and it seems like a versatile amp. I still don't see where it's worth the price they are getting for them but to each his own. I would rock one if I could find one for like $700 or so.
