I got a minor case of gas and ordered the above mentioned pedal today. It sounds like a good fit for my small collections of pedals. Anybody have one or try one?

I never cared for Keeley's mods, I actually tried several SD-1 mods and always came back to just a cheap old stock one.

I have to agree here. I wasn't impressed with the 5-Star mod.

You guys oughtta try an AnalogMan modded TS-9! Oh wait.... I just happen to have one for sale for $100! :D

I have owned Keeley modded SD-1's at least 5 times because I always think "I must have been wrong" and I try them again. I still have one and think of selling it all the time but I just keep it around to remind myself how good my old Japanese made SD-1's sound bone stock.

i ruined my old jap one from the 80's by doing this mod. Its in my reject pile of pedals. Keeley just puts to much "guck'' into his mods where they don't sound organic and pure enough for me. Then again, I am a purist in alot of ways when it comes to 'tone" and for single note soloing, this mod just didn't come off as what i expected.

good luck though !

A significant improvement over the standard SD-1. I'm selling one if your interested!

i dont dig the sd1 at all, stock or modded. i have keeley's bluesdriver, ts9, ts9flexi, ds1 and compressor, and i dig them all.

I have to say I get a kick out of seeing my daughters name all over the place...

I have heard the RK modded DS1 and along with other was not really impressed with it. I will stick with my old MXR Distortion +.

I have one and I really do like it. However, it was replaced on my pedalboard but I still use it frequently

I have both stock and Keeley modded SD-1's. I think the Keeley one is a significant improvement over stock. I don't use either anymore as my current amps have more than enough gain. But if I got another low-mid gain amp the Keeley would be right back out!

Well I paid for it last night and its on the way to me as I write. The amp I use is a low gain antique from the 50's. It reacts very well to overdrive pedals and I keep the overall volume down and use pedals for the different sounds I want to get. I think this one will be a nice addition to my current setup and should do single note lead work for me. Seems from what I'm reading that it is not so good on the high gain modren amps which I don't have and don't want. Soon as I get it I will give a short review.

I can understand wanting a modded SD-1 for blues/rock playing, but what advantages do they have if they' re just being used as a high gain boost?

It really depends on how you mod the pedal. You can increase the gain pretty significantly as well as play around with the clipping section to add more 'beef' to the tone by using LEDs or MOSFETs instead of the stock ckipping diodes.

I have an analogman modded SD-1 and I love it. Has a toggle to go from TS-9 type to SD-1 type overdrive. Also have Jap DS-1 and OD-1.

I have a Keeley SD-1 and I use it with modern high gain amps too (sometimes)...beginning to think I'm really tone deaf ;)

I like the modded SD-1 because it adds an edge to the tone that my other ODs don't quite touch the same (HBE Power Screamer, BBE Green Screamer, BB Preamp..the Xotic can do it, I just prefer it dialed for other tones)

I don't get the comment about it amp'ing up the bass either...even modded, mine is still a bass stealing mofo (which makes i great for tightening up a Recto for example.) :D

It does amp up the gain tho...level at 1 o'clock on the modded one is like level at full on the stock...but it's *quieter*...I don't run much gain (<9 o'clock)
