I have a couple of days off from work, so I was able to spend lots of time today....whoa...this thing is seriously astounding. when profiling an amp, it's super important to get a great mic placement, but when you do- look out. There were moments wearing headphones where I got confused as to which was the profile and which was the amp, other times I found the profile to somehow have more clarity? IDK, but regardless this thing is a recording guitar player's dream. My first thoughts are that I no longer need a fleet of amps/modules- I may scale back to a basic live setup...after profiling everything
Drawbacks include the interface- the knobs & functions are fine, but identifying and naming your rigs is cumbersome. Also seems to only work when my PT is in 44.1- which means that any project I have in 48.1 will be Kemper-less.
Also noted is that the Kemper needs to stay on all the time, as the PT 44.1 session seems to use Kemper as the master clock.
My questions about using my rm4 guitar preamp into the Kemper cabinets was never answered on these boards, but I quickly figured it out- my Kemper profile (& my actual rig) are waay better than the rm4 into just the cabinet portion of the same rig. There's an instant attack that is good with the rm4, but there's a significant dropoff in clarity and increase in fizz. Kemper seems to not want to be a cabinet emulator, & the rm4 is better going into a true tube power amp. No matter, they each kick ass in their own department.
Minor drawbacks for me, but worth noting.
The FEEL is fantastic. I'm ready to sell off lots of stuff, then start a revolving door of flipping amps & cabs, I'm all Kempered up
