Hi All
Taking the leap and getting a Kemper rack unit this week. I have been reading that good profiles make this unit so much better. If anyone has some links to this end I would appreciate it.
Thanks !

Yeah man... The Kemper isn't like a modeler.
The profile is everything. The good thing is there are tons of options. There are free profiles and very good commercial ones. They're all very unique-sounding and carry the signature of the individual doing the profile. That's actually part of the fun :D

Check out the Kemper forum. That's the best place to start.

Well if you can get past the rampant proximity effect in MOST non-big name profiles, then I'd say AFTER thoroughly going throughout he ones that chi with the Kemper, start at the Rig Exchange. There is a LOT of crap there but also some really good stuff.

I highly recommend V/Rad Studios (My fav JCM800 profiles), xRay Profiles, TopJimi (dude has some great Marshall stuff). You will hear a lot around The Amp Factory and MBritt. Both have good profiles but like anything, profiles are hit or miss.

You will weed through 500 to keep 20. I posted a Mercyful Fate clip I did this morning, and put a link in there to where a guy on the Kemper forum named Tim Owens has done about 150 Friedman Brown eye profiles, many are GREAT. He is working on the Friedman Dirty Shirley and Small Box as well as Splawn Quick Rod.

The Kemper users I have dealt with, mostly the whole online community, have all been REALLY cool and supportive.

Welcome to the fold brother. Best piece of gear I have bought in years.

Funny you should say that Bob... I dream in infrared!

:D

Yeah, pretty much like JerEvil said for me too, I stay on a handful of profiles most of the time.

Love my Kemper- grrreat recording tool.
I don't ever plan on doing my own profiles.

I get all of mine from TheAmpFactory. Killer stuff!

So you have a great tool like the Kemper but have no profiles outside of TAF ones??? Why limit yourself?

Well...
1. For me, limitations are a good thing.
It's great to have the capability to have profiles of possibly every amp ever made, but I'd spend so much time twiddling through them, and not getting much music recorded.
I have hundreds as is (the stock ones, plus ones that the seller gave me, plus ones I've bought from TAF), and I have deleted a crap ton of them.
Same thing goes for DAW mixing plugins for me.

2. I don't plan on venturing into doing my own profiles. Not really interested. Other people out there with better studio setups, better recording gear, better rooms that can capture amps better than I ever can. (and not to mention turning it up louder than I can in my quiet neighborhood!)

3. I just like TAF cuz he consistently does it well and has profiles of amps that I really like. I have some other from the Rig Exchange and other profilers too.

Just the way I like to use my Kemper. :D
