Yup...recently I picked up a used Alvarez Artist series AD70SC lightly used for $300. It has a solid spruce top and Rosewood (laminate) sides/back, bound rosewood board (I prefer ebony, but it wasn't a deal breaker)...and full gloss (can't stand when companies use satin finished bodies as it is not nearly as durable). I swear this guitar sounds and plays as good as the Taylor limited edition with solid rosewood b/s that I had a while back. It doesn't have that Taylor high end, but the tone is definitely more balanced. It's not as loud/boomy as the Martin HD 28 I had, but it could definitely hold it's own. The craftsmanship is great (no noticeable finish issues) and it play like a dream (after I set-up properly of course).

Remember back in the days, Made In Japan used to be crap, now it's second only to Made In USA
Some Chinese factories are getting better. I know people like stuff like the Squier Classic Vibe. Lots of garbage still though

and that is even debatable.
I personally believe the Japanese have had impeccable craftsmanship since at least the 80's and almost always opt for Japanese guitars, especially when buying sight unseen.

Well same here, I really like MIJ stuff
I was speaking more in a "general opinion" way, I think most will favor their good ole' USofA

Blueridge and Eastman are both Chinese, and both really good.

I just picked up a new Eastman Dreadnaught acoustic guitar from a local music shop and am stoked with it.
I didn't want to dump a bunch on an acoustic not knowing if I'd be playing it much so I opted for the Eastman.
Ebony fretboard, spruce top all for about 700 bucks.. Love it..

My Korean made Variax 700 plays incredibly well... Better than many USA made guitars I've owned.

I have a Parkwood (Cort) "open pore" dread with a Fishman SOB pickup system. Spruce top, mahogany sides, back and neck. Excellent guitar. I have no complaints about it at all.

+1!!!!! see my thread, WTF Gibson. Maybe Gibson will move operations to China  !

My solid wood [spruce/rosewood] Chinese built Epiphone Masterbilt acoustic/electric is well made and sounds superb.I like it every bit as much as my American built Martin DM.
