Being a huge fan, and knowing that they tend not to get a lot of attention anymore, I wanted to let anyone who cares know they are on tour starting next week. Of course maybe all the fans know this by now, but for those who don't, and are even the slightest bit interested:

12/4/2008 Louisville, KY - The Phoenix Hill Tavern
12/5/2008 Akron, OH - Tangiers
12/6/2008 Springfield, VA - Jaxx
12/8/2008 Milwaukee, WI - Shank Hall
12/9/2008 Chicago, IL - Double Door
12/10/2008 Mt. Clemmens, MI - The Emerald Theater
*** 12/12/2008 Sayerville, NJ - Starland ***
12/13/2008 Southbridge, MA - A.D.C. Performance Cntr.
12/15/2008 Farmingville, NY - The Crazy Donkey
12/16/2008 New York, NY - Gramercy Blender Theater
12/18/2008 Nashville, TN - Mercy Lounge
12/19/2008 Dallas, TX - The Door
12/20/2008 Houston, TX - The Meridian

Starting in January they are in Europe, those dates can be found at :

The show in NJ they are opening for (so-called) Skid Row.

I only know about this because Ty is one my band's myspace friends and I just happened to see the bulletin.

I am lucky enough to be able to catch them in Akron, Ohio...at this point who knows how much longer they'll be at it. I'd like to think they'll be going for a long time, but who knows?

Anyone who is even slightly interested should check them out.

IMO, as guitarists and musicians, everyone owes it to themselves to take advantage of witnessing some true masters doing their thing if they can.

wow, I missed this post, thanks man, I would absolutley love to see 'em. Seen them 3 times over the years, they do not have "bad nights". Looks like I would have to travel a bit, but they would for sure be worth it - Jim

Good friends of mine are opening for them at the Mercy Lounge in Nashville.

I would literally shit myself if my band could open for KX. Our bassist's previous band did, and he said it was pretty neat.

I saw KX last night in Akron, Ohio. There was no general admission, and the place was filled with tables, booths and whatnot...like something in Vegas. It was very odd to sit during a show like this. However, little waitress chickies came around to take drink orders.

In any event, what an awesome concert. They played stuff they haven't played for YEARS, including tunes off of Faith Hope Love, GGTN, their self-title album, really a great overall representation of their catalog. Conspicuously absent were any tunes off of Ogre Tones, their 2nd most recent release.

Ty's tone was really good...not monstrous (mega-gain and low-end) like it has been at times, but full sounding and very fluid.

I actually like his tones off the first few albums better than those of late. It was HIS. nobody had a tone like that, not really so much gain, but fatter than a hippo!, and with a strat. Still dont know what pups were in his strats on the first albums. He used the preamp section of an old Gibson amp, and ran it into a macintosh tube power amp. Dont know if he boosted it with anything or not. sure miss that tone - Jim

Ty played a Fender Strat Elite with the active Fender pick ups on GGTN. I had a few back in the day and they sounded great!

Hey Brad, I remember those, wonder how that compares to say a EMG- SA ? I havent heard Ty's Eggie setup yet, I'm sure Jeff Hilligan could give us some scoop on his current setup. I would love to hear it - Jim

I am going to the show in NJ (Starland ballroom). Ty better hope TT Quick doesnt go on before them... TT Quick is a killer band... and the guitar player taught Dave Sabo and Zakk Wylde how to play guitar. TT Quick also knows how to set up their sound. I have seen may headlining bands back in the day shit a brick having to play after them.

I love it when that happens

I would love to be able to go see them, but I guess they aren't doing any shows on the west coast. Dug's tone is awesome, and I would love to be able to nail it with my rig. Oh well, I guess I'll just sit at home and go on Rig-Talk instead....

I totally agree, Doug has got the killer bass tone. Dont know what he uses in front of his SVT's, but there has to be somthing there, never heard a bass straight into a SVT sound like that! I thought for awhile that it was the 12 string Hamer's, but he gets that tone no matter what bass he's playing. I'm not a bass player, but I have a bass rig for recording. I'm boosting a SWR, with a Sansamp bass driver, just using the clean to push the front end. It does give it some growl, but if you try to use the gain, it sounds terrible. Dougs is very natural sounding. You must be a bass player, any idea what he's using??

I opened for King's X last Thursday in Louisville. They were incredible

I doubt King's X would be worried to go on after any band, but I guess you never know.

There are a million flashier players than Ty Tabor, but those three guys together do some fantastic stuff.

Dug, Jerry, Ty, and their crew were so kind to our band. They gave us 40 minutes to play and a nice soundcheck. We had a blast!

Regarding King's X.....they just have that intangible chemistry that seems to be so very rare with bands these days. They play from the heart and are great musicians as well as great people. Those guys always have been and continue to be a big inspiration for my bandmates and myself.

Maybe I missed the left coast dates? No Kings X for me !

Dug is running our M4 pre amp for the high end and the SVP for low end. Ty is using our M4 with 2 custom modules..Gretchen and XV. Can't wait to see them this Weds!
