Looking at a charvel in KOA, wanting ti know what is would be like compared to Alder.

Read up on it and have found many diffenrt and conflicting opinions about KOA

Who is the wood expert here?

I find it sits between Mahagony and Alder....warm like Mahagony, and more alive and punchier like Alder. It's a nice good tone wood, and looks great!

Trying to get an idea with a maple neck... watching all the vid's I can find. Would like to hear from koa owners.

It's supposed to be warm sitting in between Alder and Mahogany. However, I once owned a Suhr Koa Standard which was about the brightest guitar I've ever heard. Sounded close to a solid maple guitar.

Warren de martini used to play a koa charvel with a maple neck and board...sounded bright

I don't like koa as a body wood. However, I played a Schecter usa super strat, ash with a koa top and the tone was amazing!

I have two koa body bolt-ons (Suhr with pau ferro, Charvel with birdseye behind pau ferro) and those two guitars both sound great. Really warm sounding, but without that lack of clarity that can come with mahogany. The Suhr is pretty heavy though..
