Has there been any talk yet of the gear used on Richie's Winery Dogs disc? I'm guessing it was mainly his red Fender combo he put together himself?? Is he still using the Sobbat pedals for leads?

Sounds like pedals for all the dirt. That's what happens when you use Fender amps. ;)

Unless it's my Champ.  I think even the bigger Fender tweed amps break up fairly early?

Sure, but he runs a LOT of gain. Not a typical Fender tone.

Definitely not really high gain though.

Maybe some of the heavier tunes are his Cornford.

Richie Kotzen in Guitar Magazine (Japan) June 2013 :
"I used various amplifiers, but mainly Fender Vibrolux and Vibroking. I used Fender Bassman with Vibrolux at the same time. By using different amplifiers with different characters at the same time, I could create very deep and rich sound. For example, heavy guitar part of “ The Dying “ is by this combination. Also I used Marshall 100W Plexi with 4 X 12 inch speakers cabinet for heavy and aggressive rhythm parts. This is very effective to create additional texture behind main guitar part."

Richie told me he used his tele for most of the album, and used his first tele (the yellow one that he "tie dyed" with pink, for some parts, as well as a hollowed bodied Yamaha fur some of the chunkier rhythm parts.
He also uses a pick here and there.

The YG interview and DVD that is on sale June 10th should have more in-depth info

Is that you Richie?

I'm looking to buy my first Fender amp sometime soon. What would be the overall best choice to cop Richie's sound? I was thinking maybe a Vibrolux or VibroKing, but then I thought maybe the extra gain of the newer Supersonic might be a great choice?

I've played Marshalls, SLO, Bogners, Mesas most of my life, so a Fender combo is different territory for me. . .but I think I'll love it. Just don't know which one to go for.

I use a Twin every weekend and it sounds fantastic. Big, fat and warm. Perfect, classic tone.
I don't care for the Vibrolux or King only because I really cannot stand 10's for guitar speakers close mic'd. I had a 59 Bassman and Vibrolux that I really like using live but when I went to record them they never worked for me.

I'm thinking the Supersonic 22 might be the ticket. It should get me close enough. Plus, it'd be a great grab and go amp for smaller gigs.

Funny Mike. You and I share a similar gear background and I've been telling myself for the past year I need a Fender combo after witnessing several live. :)

Those Supersonics do not sound like a the older series Fender amps. At all. Get a reissue Deluxe and you will be happy.

Umm... I'm pretty sure it's this straight into the board.

After all, it does have his signature on it. Kotzen in a box.
