I have heard of Kruse Kontrol mods on Diezel amps, but there is a used Kruse Kontrol Quanah, I think it was called. I didn’t know Kruse built their own amps.

I would post a link, but I am on my phone.

anyone played or heard one of these?

Yes I live not far from Music Zoo and have tried the Quanah. Honestly I thought it sounded awful. I remember them sounding synthetic and brittle. Terrible feel also

I had a V5 mod of his on a JCM800 and it was pretty good, but also had that same brittle quality and bad feel. Seems to be a common thing to the sound he goes for. I hear it in all his clips and don’t like it

Sounds wonderful.

Haha I wish I could say they sounded good and was looking forward to trying them, but I gotta keep it real. It’s cool that music Zoo used to get lots of high end exotic amps in stock. I felt bad because I used to bring over my favorite amps to AB with and they’d always fall way short and so I never bought any ultimately, but I did buy that Sassafras Charvel from them recently and feel that makes up for it lol and a few pedals I got from them

Jens Kruse was very nice, responsive and super quick with turn around for mods, but I gotta be honest: I just don’t think his stuff sounds or feels good

I had 2 different amps modded by Kruse
If you took the DeKomp or Supersonic level cranked up, it got real brittle/awful. But there was a sweet spot at 10 o’clock that was great. 0 was back to stock, so putting a little of that Kruse juice worked well for me.

not sure about his amp, but the features look clever

He is a hack ! He modded an amp for me and if you turned the gain up it squealed like a pig ! I opened it up and it was a mess. He literally tie rapped a black box in it, I think it was a distortion pedal. It was a complete mess.

What??? He wired a distortion pedal inside your amp?!?! Hahhaahhahahhahaahhahahbahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahbahahbahahababababbababhahahahhahjahahahhaahb!!!!!

I have never played through a Kruse modded amp or a Kruse brand build and have never stood on the room with one. But I have listened to every Kruse amp clip I could find online. There are clips of amps that make you reach for your wallet (I’m thinking of some of the really well done Bray clips, the vast majority of Friedman clips, basically any/every Gower clip out there...)

By contrast, the vast majority of Kruse clips are just the opposite, really harsh and grating high end, hollow - boxy mids, and virtually no low end. Not sure where the hype comes from, unless something truly miraculous happens in the room.

I had a quick rod modded my him. I was wanting a bit more saturation. Ended up getting it back and selling it a couple weeks later. It was ok. But it could definitely get brittle quick. I think that's the sound he goes for. I've heard horror stories about his mods but I didnt look inside the box on mine. Funny thing is you will see someone talk about getting their amp modded and then 2 weeks later you will see it on reverb. It happened to me so I get it. Now a days that unless it's an old Marshall or Marshall clone I'm not modding it. If I dont like the sound I need a new amp
