KT66's in Soldano Hot Rod Series...

Curious...

LOVED the sound in a Vintage modern I had... (Actually sold off for the HR 50 I have now)

I really like the warmth, softening/rounding of tone, and that slight mid spike and voicing in the VM...

could I expect the same effect on an HR?

I'm not a metal guy anymore so I won't miss the hyper pissed off side of the Soldano, I actually like the response with the gain around 2/3, and more volume... the amp is super responsive with good overtones like a good old Marshall.... I do the Blues thing, soft and traditional to singing hard bluesy shite...

Can't speak for myself, but I know a few guys who have put KT66 in their Jet City amps (same circuit as the HR+ amps), all with positive results. Makes it a little less compressed/open sounding. From what I gather, the KT66 characteristics are sort of like combining EL34 tone with a 6L6 tone.

is the bias adjustable? then you can put em in. it would benefit from a resistor change but its fine with 1k .

I use them in one of my SLOs - my main amp now. Very warm, extended low end, headroom. Very nice tone to me - sort of like putting a Mullard in V1.

Great job! I can hear, why I own the HR vs the other two... to my ears ...5150-too raw/5153-wierd shelf freqs in the mids/HR50-just right, fat angry full....

I agree, I could never gell with the 5150's and owned a 5153. The other guitarist in my cover band has Soldano Avenger 50 watt thats been modded by FJA. It has external bias points and EL-34's. I prefer it over his Bogner Shiva for metal, and over the 5150 variations (including the 5153).
