Ive never heard either in this amp. Well clips on here I have. But personally it has shugaung el34 type b tubes and shugaung 12ax7 pres. Never been changed, It came with those.

Seems like the kt77 sound pretty good on the clips, But since I have emg 81 in the main guitar maybe the 6l6 will sound better because the pickup already has the crunch thing going on and with the el34's its just alot of harshness coming out of the jcm 900 cab. Ive tried alot of settings etc etc...

Just wondering if anybody preferred the 6l6 setup. If I went with that it would be the low gain option from EuroTubes.
I play heavy metal of course, Thrashy, Hardcore, Just fucking heavy good shit. Tune to B usually with 70's. My newest guitar that i use most now is an olympic white esp eclipse with the 81/60 combo.

I was interested in hearing peoples opinions for the setup, And style, that maybe the JJ 6l6 tubes just might be a little better suited than the kt77's....?

I'm typically not a fan of 6L6's, and it proved no different for me when I had a Triple XXX. I replaced them with JJ KT77's and enjoyed the tone. However, I didn't try any of the other variants (EL-34, E34L, 6CA7, etc.).

I loved 5881 or 6l6 in my 5150.

Ive never heard a GOOD 6l6 in this amp....
I hear the JJ 6l6's are good tubes.
I would rather not have to deal with
the kt77 if its going to have the harshness
of the el34... Whats your experience with
the live volumes.... Any harshness going on?

i've never had kt77's in anything peavey, but i had them in my single recto for awhile and it was straight up bad ass. it was a great marriage of el-34 and 6l6. worth trying imo.

My brother runs kt's in his xxx with a sonic maximizer in the loop and sd jb loaded gibson lp. Thing rips so hard. Has the sizzle comparable to popular british amps imo. Totally different than the 6l6. Peaveys with 6l6s growl where els ans kts sizzle.

No harshness with the KT77s. Seems to keep the low end of the 6L6 and add some midrange growl of the EL34...without sounding Marshall-ie. Big win IMO...

I haven't tried a KT77 in my XXX but to my ears the XXX sounds STELLAR with 6L6s in it, that's why I've kept that tube in mine. If I was going to use an EL34 variant, of the clips I've heard the 6ca7 gave the best tone of the EL34 variants.

And yeah, you need to post up some clips!

I know this is a necro thread but I just tried 4 diff power tube sets in my XXX and this is what I found:

Shuguang 6L6 - best sound, rounded, deep, throaty
EH 6CA7 - close CLOSE 2nd, very clear distortion, 3d sounding, lows are more defined than the 6L6s
Ruby EL34BHT - nice mid bark
JJ KT77 - my least fav, kinda boring, too polite

Really a toss up between the 6L6s and 6CA7s

KT77's are sizzly on top. If that amp came stock with 34's I'd keep it that way. PV amps have plenty of EQ to work with. The extra sizzle of the 77's combined with EMG 81's will be a sizzle suck fest..

You might as well just shitcan the amp and get a SS amp or a Modelor.. FUCK... ?

KT77's all the way. I love them in the XXX, and JSX. To the post a couple above - too polite? There's nothing smooth or polite about KT77's. They're much more aggressive than any EL34 I've used, (aside from SED's).

JJ 6CA7's work well in the XXX too. Big, and thick.

The JJ KT 77 is my favorite power tube, but I’ve not heard Sylvania 6CA7’s, Mullard EL34’s or Marconi/GEC original KT77’s.

I do run mostly EMG's and Fishmans

I've been using KT77's for years. Sizzly is the last word I'd use to describe them. They are punchy, with a nice chunk. If anything, any "sizzle" is good sizzle. They're richer in harmonics, and really liven up your leads. I've put them in Peaveys, Engls, Friedmans, a Bogner Helios, Marshall JVM's, and a Randall Thrasher. I can say, with 100% certainty, that they made all those amps more aggressive, and were an overall improvement.

Post a clip of this ear rapping tone of yours to be judged.
