Was looking at eurotubes site, and one of the jj retube kits were high gain pre's, and kt77's. Sounded good on paper, anyone tried this combo? Or kt88's?
Need to retube the marshall soon and wanted to buy a complete kit like that; im not much of an experiment guy with tubes, and have two bands going.....

Just a different flavor of EL34...has a bigger low end and more headroom than their other EL34 types in my expereince. I actually didn't like them in the amp I got them for (Matchless Chieftain) as they were too boomy on the low end. They would probably sound much better in a Marshall though.

Cool thanks. That may actually work with my setup, as I pulled the outer tubes, halved the ohms, and running it as a 50 watter

I actually prefer KT77s in most setups to 34s...just sounds better to me.

Right on. Never tried it, but I think im gonna just buy the kit from eurotubes.

my 2 cents is not to try the JJ KT-77's, too much of a gamble if you'll like them IMHO.

i've tried the JJ KT-77's in several amps, the only amp i liked them in was a Peavey XXX, and they were pretty good in there.

rather see you try something else. some of the Chinese 34's are getting to be pretty good, EH6CA7 are deferent but good.

hell if you wanna go with Goggle Bob, maybe ask around about the JJ 6CA7's?

I find EL34's to be very inconsistant and varying in tone from brand to brand as it is.
I haven't tried KT77's, but I imagine it would be no different that sampling a multitude of EL34's. Some are brighter, some darker. Bigger low end, tighter low end. Pleasing breakup, ugly break up, harsh mids, sweet mids.. etc.

i just ordered some jj 6ca7's from valvequeen earlier. they are apparently the closest thing to a 50/50 mix of a 6l6/el34 in the same tube from everything i have heard or read about them.

if you want more of an el34 flavor but with a bit more low end than the typical el34 then the kt77 is probably the tube for you.

What I have heard as well

Look for Killtone's sig as he has JVM clips with both 77s and 34s recorded very well so you can hear the differences.
