No its the era of customer service as a whole unfortunately. There are some good experiences to be had, but it seems more and more customer service based companies just don't give a fuck.

Yep. Sweetwater makes you feel like a customer not a $.
I've had great experiences with Sweetwater.

you should have pushed it off the counter and said-whoopsie.....

This seems excessive you could have worn
A huge belt buckle and claimed
A scratch a dent

Sorry you didn't get the deal you wanted, but for all he knew, you were going to offer $500 and a Squier trade in, like probably five other people already offered that week. You obviously wanted it, so it's not like he needs to try to convince you. You needed to convince him, IMHO. Make the offer. Back it up with comps, and mention how long it's been there.

But just asking for a vague discount probably made him think you were a tire kicker.

Similar thing happened to me a local shop (not GC). Was going to buy an amp listed at its full price so I figured asking for a discount would not hurt, worst could happen would be the guy would say no and I was still planning to buy anyway. When I asked he was a complete a&%hole... a salesperson who cannot handle bargain at any level does not belong in a sales floor. Needless to say I walked away, the amp sat there for months (years?) and I bought the amp elsewhere.

well, I mentioned the duration it had been there, and that it was due for a price drop. he obviously knew that I meant the price could be adjusted, hence his comment about the price being what it is...

But look from his perspective. He has no idea you had $1600. If you had sometime for sale here and someone sent you a pm just saying hey man, the price is too high, would you take that seriously? I wouldn't. I can appreciate someone making an offer, but it's smells of a tire kicker when someone won't make an offer but is just fishing for something. At least to me.

A lot of the guys in Guitar Center only took those jobs because they thought it would be cool to work in a music store. Most of them are not natural salesmen.

Those kinds of things are better with a manager or assistant.

ok. lets wind it back. I used to work at GC. I know their whole shtick, all of the terms they use, I can even work their computers to see the costs and what they brought the items in for, how much money they have into etc etc.

I told him its DUE FOR A PRICE DROP. thats not opaque. thats GC language clearly meaning, its been here for over 40 days, you can discount it. HE knew it, I knew it. He didn't WANT to make it happen. thats all there is to it.

EVERY single time I ask a more apt salesperson from guitar center "how long has it been in the system?" they always know exactly what WE are getting at.

Maybe u should have told him THAT ;)

In 2016 they basically adopted a no haggle price policy and haven't deviated much on it. They have tightened up their trade prices and tried holding firm on their set used prices. The only way to get a discount (and it is perceived) is off of a price reduction because it has sat for so long. The sales people have zero authority to reduce prices so you MUST go to the store manager or a department manager to have any hope of getting a markdown. Most times they will do nothing. That is the mindset from the very top down. On some levels it has helped them and on many other levels it has hurt them. I have always like to wheel and deal but that is definitely NOT the GC business model now.

Actually, they don't owe you anything. You know they get this everyday from EVERYONE that comes in the store to actually buy something. It's okay to make an offer, but they are not obligated to come off the price for someone with a sense of entitlement complex. Then you come on a discussion board to whine about it as if you were one of those idiotic anti-Trump protesters in the streets. You don't get your way, so you throw a tantrum in response. If you don't like it, don't shop at GC (I certainly don't). It's that simple.

is 3 months a long time for a guitar to sit in a shop?? shit where I live they can sit for yrs and not change price

Their computers look like they are from the 80s and it seems to take several minutes just to ring up a few packs of strings which causes unnecessary lines. I know this is ot it's just not a good look imo.

It's hard to find good help. It's hit or miss at my local GC. There are a couple of guys there that are really cool and a few that are just a waste of time. Only reason I go is to see what used gear they've gotten in.

So with this newly adopted no haggle policy, are they adjusting the products reasonably when they become "used," from belt buckles, drops, crashes into other guitars, etc?

They clearly aren't in mint new condition at that point, so what is the course of action on GC'S part.

B stock inventory?
Or that kid saying get lost? LOL

Btw, +1 on Sweetwater

They changed their policy Reza to 90 days now and will not drop it a dime until then. I would have asked for store manager. Manager is only one with override 90 day discount.

This. Or, call and ask for a different sales rep. My experience with different sales reps has really varied.

But I still find great underpriced items on their used site. 1974 1960a cab w/creambacks-399. Great condition. 1978 Fawn 1960a cab w/blackbacks-499. Great condition. Found these last spring. There was a matching 78 fawn 2203 and fawn 1960a cab for 1499 a month ago. That's a steal. Both looked mint.
