New Roland TD516 kit in the house.

I have been looking for a while to up grade my TD17 kit, and finally pulled the trigger on this.

I have actually had it a week but due to working out of town, I’ve only had about 3 days on it.

My TD 17 complaints…
Rack size, it felt like a child’s kit sitting behind it everything spread and raised as far up as I could it was still very cramped.

The Hi hat and Ride, I have the 2 piece hi hat that I finally added to the kit early last year, it was an improvement but still left a lot to be desired.

The ride was an exercise in frustration, but my 17 didn’t come with the regular ride so I bought a used one several years back and it would decide for you what it though you needed to trigger.

The snare, was ok but it suffered from the kit being so short that I could never get it placed high enough even trying an actual snare stand I couldn’t get the toms high enough.

So, day 1, 90% of my issues with the 17 are gone, I’m still trying to get the kit set up right, I’m close but I am not 100% there yet.

The digital snare, ride and hi hat are amazing, the other pads look nicer and feel a little better than the 17 pads.

I am very pleased with it so far, and my drumeo sessions since I bought the kit have actually felt like I can play along with the lessons instead of fight the kit to get through them.

So, about the TD17, I took and shrunk the kit down and set it up for my little girl, she has played around on it for a while but I though her having one she could actually sit at would give her a little incentive to play more… so far it isn’t working. Dropped hers to a 3 piece kit and kept the 17s snare and ride to add to the 516 giving me a 2nd floor tom and another cymbal.

Looking forward to years of playing this kit.
