Also one more thing Steve. Is the Cherry Bomb have more gain than your your plexi rod, or is it more of an updated version etc. Looks very nice man, Love the saturation switches on the front. Again that damn thing screams class, I had to get my smokers jacket just to look at it. Im sure when the tubes heat up they smell of leather bound books and mahogany.
:D

The Cherry Bomb is an updated version of the PlexRod with two completely independent preamps with their own tone stacks. I'd say it has a bit more gain in some modes...

Looks great Bob.

Is the Cherrybomb going to come with standard tolex shell's for the commoners?
Yes, I put some pictures of the amp in the standard tolex cab (unfinished - still doesn't have the front or back panels or nameplate badge) in this thread. And as I said, anyone that purchases one of Bob's custom head cases for my amp also gets a black or white tolex one with corner protection for no additional cost. That way, when you take it to gigs, you can just put the amp in the other head shell so you don't have to worry about damaging the exotic wood case...

Steve

I think that work is outstanding but when it comes to amps, I'm kinda stuck on basic black.

Steve is going to make Ferrari's business model of interviewing for possible ownership look socialist

Looks awesome across the whole project (chassis and shell). I am super impressed!! Where do I get in line!

Thanks for the kind words guys.

Even the bottom is shot in burst.............................damn.

That is going to be one heavy amp, I know from experience when I had the JVM in a custom hardwood shell.

My only suggestion and I am not sure how it will be received would be to somehow add corner protection without making it look too out of place. Again from experience lugging a heavy custom headshell amp.

Outstanding work Bob.

Yep, bottom is burst too.

Got any pics of the JVM shell? Would love to see it. I hear you on the corners and if I can figure a way to make it look good it's something I may consider. The thing is, most people that buy these type of cabs aren't likely to gig with them, although you bring up a good point because perhaps I should offer it as an option so the buyer decides.

Id like to see a black headshell like the see through grey black like PRS uses on some of their guitars and have a red burst on the outside that would look tits on the black chassis IMO

Absolutely. Black/ebony stained with a translucent black burst is something I dig too.

Yummy.

Hi Bob btw. :)

Thank you my friend. I'm doing well. How about you? Anything new on the amp front?

You're like most, Kage. There's a limited, niche market for these for sure particularly because they are not inexpensive, but I'm hoping to strike up some extra interest since I'm offering something different than most (any?) shops in that I can do both one-offs with custom carvings (including 3D reliefs) for the end user as well as maintainining consistent quality for larger runs for amp mfgs. I'll do standard, non-carved cabs too but my goal is to attract customers looking for unique pieces.

How about some type of leather corners with maybe brass or bronze studs attaching them?

I have the JVM back in the stock shell due to me becoming tired of the weight, here it is and I have since added a gold plexi period sized Marshall logo,

The main wood is Jarrah with maple and wenge.

You bursted the inside bottom?? Overachiever!

Just thinking out loud I wonder if you scalloped out the inside of sides, top, and bottom, and just left "braces" essentially for strength you could probably cut the weight down by half or more without affecting the outer look or the overall strength?

The other thing that comes to mind...will heat from the chassis affect the finish?

And as was mentioned I bet leather corners could be cool.

Just make sure it matches your leather gig bag/manpurse... :D

Damn that thing looks sweet!!
I would be afraid to play it!!
Just lock it up in a glass cabinet with a spotlight on it! :D

Really is an sweet looking shell that would be perfect for Steves amp.

That looks absolutely killer!!! Steve's Runaways signature amp is going to be a real stunner

When do Joan and Lita take delivery of their first amps? ;)

Black metal corners would look just fine on that, check out an Elmwood birch for reference.

Great work Bob and Steve!

My 2 cents is that the Cherry bomb wood carving would look better without the faux explosion.

I agree. Bob did awesome work but I've never gotten into the wood head shells. Maybe a mix of wood with cool 3D carvings in a dark grey stain with a mix of leather that had a relic look to it might catch my eye.

I will say though out of all the wood style head shells Bob's are looking the best to me by far.

Thanks again guys. Glad you're digging it, even if it's not your style.

I like that idea. Any leads on a supplier of leather corners? Not sure I've seen those before.

Very cool. Who made it?

It's not bursted as nicely as the top, sides and bottom, but yeah, inside bottom has some burst.

Not sure about the scalloping/fluting to lighten it, but it would certainly add more cost because now I'd be flipping the material and machining both sides. I like the idea though and I'm also suddenly craving a baked scallop cut roll.

Since there have been companies making hardwood cabs for so long (Mesa...) without issue, I'm not too concerned about the finish being affected by heat other than perhaps the inside top for this design, which should be fine.

My fanny pack is black so I should be good to go!

"Great deal" is relative but absolutely. Shoot me an e-mail and let's figure it out.
