"Baked Maple" fretboards.
What's with that? They finally got rid of the ugly green inlays and now this?

I wonder if the baked maple has anything to do with their "wood issues" as of late. Either way, the Midnight Manhattan is a sexy beast.

Rosewood is more expensive, baked maple is cheaper and gives the look of rosewood.

Shit company that laughes at it's customers

These have a 50's neck profile, it's not a "Classic" at all.

I own an early 90s classic plus that just kills, these new issues are hardly classic's. First off what the fuck is up with the "baked maple" fingerboard ? they ought to just call it faux rosewood. Then classics always had 60's slim taper necks not 50s profile. Then it appears they are still using the cheap multi piece bodies instead of the 1 piece bodies that the original classics always had. The only plus is that they arent using the aged trapezoid inlays that they started using in the mid 90's. I would bet that they are switching to baked maple due to their problems with the epa over imported rosewood. I guess soon the only way to get a rosewood board with gibson is through the custom shop like how it is with a 1 piece body that used to be the norm.

If you look at the description on MF, the baked maple is for enhancing articulation :D

The snot green inlays have been replaced (yay!) with snot green tuners?

LOVE my 2000 Classic Premium Plus.
Had the frets (6105? not my thing, especially on an LP) pulled; replaced inlays with a sweet pre-cut set of 50's type celluloid inlays, back to fret guys for a level and some 6100 frets. Replaced tuners. Replaced pick-ups.

Gibson is worse than Fender with all the different LP models! Is this a first - a Les Paul with a maple board?? Must make it bright as hell, no?

There's a Zakk Wylde LPC with a maple fretboard, and one other hideous model i can't recall, that i want no part of. :gethim:

A thin piece of maple is not going to change that mahogany/maple cap tone very much if any change at all. Especially high gain playing.

Anyone that claims they can readily hear this needs to run to LA quick and collect their huge paychecks.

Never thought I'd see them re-release Manhattan Midnight (I have a Limited Edition w/ebony board)--gorgeous finish IF done right.

I have one of the LP studio models (Raw Power) with the maple fret board & not sure if it's the maple board or the '57 Classic pickups that make it bright.

Oh good... they replaced the streaky cheap rosewood and snot green inlays with a really light faux rosewood that looks more at home on a Squier than a Gibson... *sigh* I'll stick to my Trad Plus with the nearly black rosewood fretboard.
