Anyone ever played one of these? I was in GC playing a few Gibson's and one after another they sucked. They had a regular used classic that was junk, a cool looking used 1981 standard but it was beat to hell and played like garbage. I played some traditional's.....*egh*. And I don't care if the standards sound ok, I'm not buying a Les Paul that weighs 6 LBS.

But then I played the Custom Classic and wasn't sure what it was, and it's priced low for a Gibson at $1900. It's exactly what it says, a mixture or classic and custom but it has a roasted maple neck. Did the feds take all their rosewood?  I'm pretty sure it's weight relieved but that never bothered me as I think those models sound the same as the solid models. But this guitar was cool, looked great, and it actually was setup right and played really nice. I played it through a Line6/Bogner and from what I could tell it sounded nice and I couldn't find many flaws on it.

I did play one of those swirl models and thought it was a pile of junk. Felt cheap and it has so many finish flaws all over it the thing was laughable. But the Custom Classic was a nice surprise.

Shopping for a nice Gibson = playing Russian Roulette if the barrel had 50 chambers :D

Hey Danny, if you like the looks of that guitar, why not just buy my 1978 Les Paul Custom? It has a REAL ebony board, none of this burnt/toasted/roasted/spit-cooked maple nonsense.....

Whoa! How much are you asking? That's a beauty! Makes me think of Mick Ronson.

Now that is a nice looking guitar. Take that roasted toasted rye bread shit and chuck it lol.

Great looking guitar rlord1974. Maple fretboards just don't look right to me on a Les Paul.....

Dammit, dammit, dammit... I love LPC's, and that one is absolutely beautiful!!! I owned an old LPC natural (mid-70's) back in the early 80's that was so sweet. Regret selling it.. so this just tweaked me :(

so what you're saying is that you don't like Gibsons?

It's been weeks since you've said it, so thanks for the reminder....hee heee

I like it. One of the best playing/feeling LPs I played was one of those Zakk Wylde models; it just looked ridiculous. I like the maple necks so this cool development. Do they come in black?

Nice looking, but most Custom's I've played weighed about 15 lbs and have no frets left and are seriously over priced. I'm guessing a 78 Natural Custom could fetch over 3k.

I went to 4 GC's in one day last week trying out LP's. I played 2 Traditionals, 1 Standard, 2 Traditional Pro's, a Custom Classic, and 3 Faded Studios. The Custom Classic (exact same finish you posted) was by far the best playing/sounding of the bunch. I looked it over carefully and didn't find any finish/set-up flaws either.........was an awesome guitar. The 2nd best sounding one was one of the Studio Faded ones. The Traditional Pros I played really sucked. Both were dead acoustically and lacked sustain when plugged in. The Traditionals were decent and the Standard was "meh".

That natural finish is super sexy! If only it had a ebony fretboard.

with 2 grand to spend you would be much better off getting a used gibson then any of the new substitute models that are off spec and I doubt will have any real resale value. You can find a real lp custom with the ebony board for that much play it for yrs and never loose a penny an maybe make a few, or an old early 90's lp classic. You can even find used r8 or r7 if u look around for that price. They all have a one piece body and correct fingerboards.

Like i said, the Custom Classic pretty much smoked a 1981 standard they had and an older Classic. As long as it says Gibson on it, it's going to hold value. And go ahead and buy a new Custom for 4k and see if you can get 4k used for it. That won't happen.
