Les Paul Gold Top?

I'd pass on that as you can buy a used R7 for that price range and it will be a better built guitar. (Custom Shop). I paid $2100 shipped w/o pickups for my R7

Exactly what I was about to say. I'd wait and find an R7. You might pay a couple hundred more, but it's worth it.
 
I don't generally like buying used, but an R7... food for thought. :) :confused:
 
Classics and Traditionals (or "T") are great guitars and used to be a better buy when they were sub 2K. Now? Dunno. I agree a R7 used would probably be a better investment. I couldn't do it because I'm not a fan of big necks.
 
I got this Les Paul Classic from Sweetwater and it's the best lp I ever played...I have had it for 6 months now and had no regrets at all....Honestly the best guitar i ever played! I changed out the pups for a Gibson 500T in the bridge and a Shur Aldrich in the neck....Sounds killer!!
 
Yes, the R7 is a great guitar... if you like playing on a tree trunk. The Trads I've played have all been nice guitars. The other option would be a used Standard. You can find some pretty good deals on them.
 
I just got my R7 back from my luthier today. He thinks Gibson totally fucked up in the factory somewhere when building mine. Things like epoxying the nut in the neck which he thinks they did cause they fucked up installing/miss threaded the trust rod. Also exposed filler by the guitar nut and putting the nitro finish over the guitar nut. He managed to fix it all and its all good. I'll post pics.

Dude, That is really my dream guitar! Sorry to hear about the nightmare. BTW, who is your luthier ? Wondering if it's the same guy that I had refret the 88' Epiphone les paul I had. The 88' 89' Epi, LP's were actually pretty killer, so I felt it was worth it. Only to end up selling the damn thing because I needed quick cash. The next owner dropped it and broke the headstock off. Tragic.
 
You can see in these pics the nut is buried in epoxy, he had to use dental tools to scrape it all out and get to the nut. As result of this over the years you can see the trust rod is rusted on its outer edge. Last pic you can see the filler by the guitar nut.

Thanks but it is all good now, perfect even. I've been using BR Fret Shop in Hawaii Kai for a few months now, that place is legit. They did an amazing job and documented all of it. I'm going to slowly have all my guitars (beaters and all) run thru their shop too see if anything could be improved on their current setups.

Wow, that's cool that there is a shop dedicated to it and you can just take your guitar down there. I went through Dan for the refret , the guy did a good job!
 
I'd also wait & look for a nice used R7. The solid non-weight relieved body (no drilled holes) and long tenon neck make a big difference in the sound... even unplugged you can feel and hear the difference.

There are some really nice production LPs out there (Classics, Standards, etc) but for the $$$$ go for the R7.

Big Neck = Big Tone
 
Have any of you guys removed the Gforce tuning device? If removed, can the tuners be reused without the "tuning" part or do I have to install new replacement tuners?
