Hey Guys,

So after a good wait, I finally finished off my Les Paul. Crappy cell phone pics but I'm very happy with how it turned out. Can't wait to get my amp back and pair these two together for a match made in heaven and add a couple of new parts (pickup cover and new knobs).

Let me know what you think!

Thanks! It's a love hate type of thing for me whenever I do finish work.

Dude, that turned out so friggin cool. Very original; lovin it. GREAT job!

Looks awesome.

My biggest complaint about the burst finishes is it looks like a guitar pick in the center. wish they would soften that up around the neck pup and widen it a bit. :gethim:

Ps urs does not have that issue. Looks perfect.

Nice!! What model was it ? Coil tap?

It was a 2000 Classic but I've changed everything but the frets. I hate bound boards but I want SS frets put in because I burn through them quickly. The tap is for Series/Split/Series-Parallel. It's the neck pickup only.

Thanks! Did you finish your GT yet? I'm falling in love with it.

I've never liked Gibson's teardrop look on their bursts. I wanted a semi-faded burst. It was all hand rubbed using wood stains so I felt like I had more control.

I really like the neck on my GC Blonde Beauty (thicker than a 60's thinner than a 50's) and thought about finding another one on evil bay and doing this with a satin finish.

Did you run out of red?

Nope. Just the look I was going for. I hate Gibson's teardrop look when they do a burst finish. I like more of the amber/yellow to show throughout the body with touches of red here and there that change in color/consistency when the sunlight hits it at different angles. There are faint traces around the knobs and near the 'arm rest'.

The back is cherry red and I filled the grain with ebony to allow the character of the mahogany to show through.

whats up with the piece of foam?

Interesting burst job and unique, almost looks like a half and half.

Helps keep the strings from ringing out behind the bridge and nut. Maybe it's a placebo effect, but I feel as though the sound is more focused. Saw James Lugo talk about it and figure it'd give it a try. Hair tie is at the top as well for string muting.

That was my next question, what stains/colors did you use? That guitar is gorgeous!

Transtint Cherry Red and Vintage Amber. Stewmac relabels them and sells them for $5 less than what they typically go for. I also had some medium brown to tint the red for darker shades. I also used ebony wood filler for the back, sides and neck.
