Do most of you switch out the 300K pots for the 500K? I have the 300K still in mine and am wondering if I'm missing something. I do recall reading somewhere that using anything lower than 500K chokes the pickup.

Just wanted to get some opinions before I switch them out.

curious about this too mine I left stock. this is the first I have heard of this.

I threw an Aldrich into my Standard at the same time I did one of those RS kits so I cant comment about the difference between stock pots vs upgrades but I can attest to some chewy awesome goodness as a result of the investment.

I'm probably going to gut this one at put it into the Custom I just got from Kurtstuff. I dont gel with EMGs as a rule.

I always felt like the pickup had more in it. How much did it effect the tone and I would suppose output as well. Wouldn't it be like turning a 500K pot down 30%?

Both of my LP's have 500k pots all around and Aldrich bridge pickups. With my '73 LP custom, changing the pots to 500k was like taking a small blanket off the guitar. I did change the pots and pickup at the same time.

I also added push-pull 500k tone pots so I could split the pickups. The Aldrich does split well.
