This has probably been done to death but if so, I’m sorry. Search function doesn’t seem to be working. Anyway, I’m about to do a real pedal board with a real power supply instead of daisy chaining them all with One Spots. My question is, is it really worth it to get something isolated like a Strymon Zuma as opposed to like an MXR Black DC brick?

Yes, Definitely. Unless you like extra noise of course. So they say.

Yes, I'm a firm believer in good, clean power. I believe it kills gremlins and that "one day it sounds great, next day sounds like shit with same settings" that plagued me for years.

I went down the rabbit hole and researched about every PS I could find. Ended up with 3 Strymons under the board (1 Zuma and 2 Ojai's) and don't regret it. But there are a lot of good ones out there tough that you really can't go wrong with, really comes down to how many pedals you want to have and the type of pedals. Walrus Audio, Friedman, Voodoo Labs, bunch of good ones.

I recommend Voodoo Labs. They fixed my PS for free, no receipt needed and the turn around was super quick. Great company all the way around.

have a voodoo labs pedal power II+ that i love but i would also want to try the friedman.

I upgraded from a DC brick (which is now used on my backup board) and have been happy with the difference. Using a T-Rex Fuel Tank myself but the other guys have good suggestions as well!

I am finally gonna make my first pedal board around the KSR Ceres preamp,so I am watching this thread and the classifieds closely. Gotta love being able to get good advice here. Thanks guys.

When I did my first real pedal board I went with a 1 SPOT Pro CS12 which was great. Later I had random unknown noise issues (high rise living) and was trying everything to weed it out. I ended up switching to Friedman powergrid 10s to see if it would help. It did a little but turns out my powersupply was not the issue. With that said the 1 SPOT Pro CS12 wasn't bad. I'm holding on to mine for mini board later. I think as long as you get an isolated one you'll be ok.

What are you using for power amp?

They are very much worth it! I have a Cioks unit and a Voodoo labs 4x4. Both have been fantastic and reliable.

Can you use adapters and one-spots and have clean power? Yes

Is it a shit ton easier to buy a supply with isolated transformers to avoid hum/ground loops? Also yes and the route most take when they can pony up the cash.

Zuma user here and happy with it for years.
